Please don't think that I am taking the election results as a joke. But, during times of fear, sadness, and helplessness, I think we need to take a moment to laugh. So, here are 7 things that may or may not brighten your day. Love trumps hate, and who doesn't love a cute Pomeranian or an "Elf" gif?

I, probably like most of you readers, was shocked by this election. As November 8th neared, I kept thinking: "Sure, Trump could be the next leader of the free world, but who would possibly vote for such a racist, sexist, and xenophobic homophobe?". But I was naive.

As a Japanese citizen, and only a permanent resident of the United States, I was unable to vote despite being of age. I think you can assume where my vote would've gone if I was able to vote. But regardless of my citizenship, America has been my home since the age of 2. I always appreciated this country's fundamental ideologies of inclusivity and open-mindedness, especially growing up accepting two cultures. This election's results dissapointed me.

Being both a minority and a woman, I am fearful of what comes next for us. Being an immigrant, I am saddened by the realization that such a large number of Americans can support an unashamedly racist man. Being a true believer in the power of diversity, I feel helpless about my role in shaping a global future.

But, instead of spreading anger, I want you to take a couple minutes to enjoy these gifs; then, go out and spread love.

1. A sleepy baby falling into a blissful sleep.

Just look at that smile.

The world looks a little brighter when your only worries are your next nap and how cute everyone thinks you are.

2. This cat trying to get that beach bod ready with some quick crunches.

Let's all admit, this is exactly what we all look like at the gym two weeks before the summer.

4 crunches, then roll over for a nap. Repeat this circuit three times.

3. A Pomeranian with a watermelon.

I'm not really sure what to write for this one.

But it should make you happy regardless of an explanation..

4. Countdown to Thanksgiving!

Whether you're in it for the apple pie, the endless football, or the trip home, everyone loves Thanksgiving.

Readers, better get your stomachs ready for a disgusting amount of food consumption. I'm not sure if that means I should start fasting, or if I should feast everyday in order to expand my stomach. Opinions are welcome!

5. Countdown to Christmas!

We have all finally finished mourning the end of Halloweekend, so naturally, it is time for the countdown to Christmas. If you are not feeling like Buddy is in this gif, we are no longer friends.

Christmas means it is once again socially acceptable to watch Elf five nights a week. It also means the red cups at Starbucks are back (sorry, this wasn't mean to be a controversial article!).

6. The Canadian immigration site crashing.

Whether you're headed to the border to transfer to McGill, or for the drinking age, probably a smart choice. Speaking of fleeing, I just booked a one way ticket to Japan.

7. Amy Poehler at Northeastern!!

For anyone who is lucky enough to be a Husky, and therefore got to see Amy Poehler on Thursday, you have one reason to be kind of happy. Despite being angry and disheartened by the election like many of us, Amy still found a way to make us laugh. She reminded us of the two obvious reasons not to become a politician: bad lighting and having to shake people's hands. Most importantly: Amy, thank you for promising to raise your two boys to become men who respect women, and for encouraging women to be the smart girl at the party. (Check out her website: https://amysmartgirls.com !!!)

My hope is that this article made you giggle a little. But more importantly, I hope it made you remember that we still have a job to do. Like many of you, I am angry. But, for that reason exactly, we cannot break right now. In such a dark time, it is important to stand together. If you are feeling fearful, sad, and helpless, you must be a catalyst for change. And it must be a positive change. So, do your best to smile and remember that more than ever, we cannot allow hate to win.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
