It’s at that point in the semester (at least for me) where I’m really not looking forward to doing all of the work that’s piling up. I’ve done just about everything else: clean my room, washed clothes, called my family, went for a walk, grocery shopping, you name it, I’ve probably done it already. Therefore, I do what every other college student has done, Netflix, Hulu or whatever site you use for watching TV when you should be doing actual work. So, this list is for all of you procrastinators out there who need a new show to watch. This list is for all of you avoiding work, or who just need a new show to ruin your lives. If you have not seen these shows from the beginning, or in their entirety, I promise you they will draw you in. Some are over and some are still going, but they’re all pretty good (even if I am slightly biased). Get your snacks and sweats ready. You’re welcome.
1. "Grey’s Anatomy" (Netflix, and on TV currently)
If you love seeing every character you’ve ever loved die, as well as learning random medical terms, this is the show for you. If you love yourself, you won’t get too attached to the characters because the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, is infamous for killing off or getting rid of many favorites, especially when you least expect it. Many of you already know Patrick Dempsey (McDreamy) dies in this, but you can’t help get attached to all of the characters anyway. By the end of it, you’ll be going around calling your best friend your “person.”
2. "How To Get Away With Murder" (Netflix, but also currently on TV)
Another show by Shonda Rhimes, who I think likes to see the world burn. If you like mystery and not really knowing what is going on and shows filled with plot twists around every corner, this one is great. Plus the entire cast is very good looking.
3. "True Blood" (Only if you have HBO Go, or a friend with it)
This show is no longer on air, so binge watch at your own pace, but you will grow to love the show set in a small town in Louisiana. This one does feature random creatures, such as vampires and werewolves, but it is filled with so much drama, twists, turns and characters you love to hate (mainly Sookie). She’s the main character, and throughout the whole series, you’re going to want her to shut up.
4. "Shameless" (Showtime Anytime, but it is also currently on TV)
This one is more modern, featuring a poor family living in the Southside of Chicago. Sounds simple enough, but this family’s got some serious baggage – a father who is an addict, a mother who (not only is she never around) is bipolar, the oldest daughter trying to hold down the fort, one brother who’s a genius who always gets in trouble, another brother who is gay and wants to be in the army, a younger sister trying to grow up too fast, a third brother who just likes getting into trouble and setting things on fire and a final brother who’s probably the most sane out of all of them (granted he’s only seven). Drugs, fighting, sex, constantly being torn apart and other shenanigans occur on this show, but I highly recommend this one.
5. "Pretty Little Liars" (Netflix, and currently on TV)
Everyone has heard of this show. Everyone is still wondering why it’s still on TV. Honestly, I’ve been following this show since it aired, and I’m still confused by it; therefore, if you’re really looking for something you don’t understand half of the time that switches things up a lot, this is your show.
6. "Dance Moms" (Netflix, TVGo and currently on TV)
I admit, this one is a guilty pleasure. But if you like dancing and crazy moms yelling at each other, this is a show for you. And those girls are seriously talented! But you’ll probably want to throw something at the TV every time Abby speaks.
7. "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" (Currently on TV – will this show ever end, TBH)
I admit I don’t watch this anymore, but if you’re looking for a good laugh and a look inside the life of the rich and fabulous, this is your show. Or, if you need a show to hate-watch, definitely watch this.
8. "Orange is the New Black" (Netflix)
If you’re not watching this show by now, I applaud you because before I watched this, it was all anyone would talk about. Though Piper is super annoying, you immediately fall in love with all of the inmates, especially when the episodes with their background stories come up. Also, for those of you just starting it, you only really have to deal with Larry in the first season.
Additionally, here are shows I've never seen, but have been told are really good. Enjoy at your own leisure.
1. "The Good Wife"
2. "Tudors"
3. "Breaking Bad"
4. "Gilmore Girls"
5. "Revenge"
6. "The Big Bang Theory"
7. "Friends"
8. "Full House"
9. "Reign" (Beware, theres only two seasons)
10. "Young & Hungry"
11. "The Walking Dead"
12. "Skins"
