As a young Jewish woman, growing up in a primarily Jewish area I didn't really face that much anti semitism growing up. However, I always know it's out there. Being in a Jewish sorority I don't typically face anti semitism still, however, you do hear about other people's experiences.
I understand that when you're not Jewish or your family wasn't directly affected by the Holocaust, it is hard to understand how serious this time was. Many people lost their families, business's, friends, homes and possessions all because of their religion or disability, etc. So I don't understand how it could EVER be something to joke about.
I'm not incredibility religious or anything like that, so I am not trying to force my beliefs on anyone but I honestly find it disgusting that people can joke about the deaths of so many innocent people. So many people lost everything because someone decided that's how it should be.
This was a tragedy and for people to make fun of it rather than make sure this never happens again, is truly appalling. My grandfather was a survivor along with many others, so these kinds of jokes are certainly not funny to people who have had family in the Holocaust. I know people that have visited the concentration camps and did the march of the living and it has given them chills straight to the bone. I am tired of people thinking that this is a funny punch line to their joke, because this is not a joke to me.
