It's OK To Be Selfish...

Because sometimes we give so much that we end up loosing ourselves along the way.

"Selfish" is defined as a lack of consideration for those around you; being concerned only with one's self. I'm not sure where the word selfish got its negative connotation from, but once it started to be used interchangeably with words such as greedy, mean, and and uncaring, the true meaning of being selfish was lost.

Being selfish does not mean that you or I don't care about the people around us, it doesn't mean that we're mean, or greedy. Being selfish means that you care about yourself enough to know what you deserve, to know your worth. Being selfish to me is living. I care about everyone in my life with such strong emotions, but I care about myself just as much. Why do we put so much effort into pleasing other people but often don't put enough effort into pleasing ourselves?

In my opinion, everyone is put on this earth to live a truly great life. Some people do, and some people don't. The people that live great lives, are selfish. Being selfish is about getting rid of the toxic people in your life. Being selfish is about spreading good vibes and happiness to everyone you meet. Being selfish is following your dreams. The more we try to please other people, the more other people take from us, the less selfish we're being and that's not okay. Our lives can really be harmed by how much we try to give to others.

We can be generous. We can give people our time, our money, our love, our faith and still be selfish. But, when you give so much to one person and they stop appreciating it, you're being taken advantage of... it's time to start being more selfish.

I care about myself too much to let other people decide what kind of life I'm going to live. Some people might call me selfish for that, but the only people that will accuse you of being selfish for living your life are the ones who are not meant to be there along the ride.

It's time to really focus on yourself, because sometimes we give so much that we end up loosing ourselves along the way.

Be selfish. Believe in yourself. Be happy.

Give to others what you can, but do not feel like you owe anything to anyone. This life is yours to live, not someone else's.
