The importance of taking time for yourself during college

During college it is so easy to lose yourself and get distracted by other things but it is very important to take care of yourself and do things that make you happy

Self Care!

College is a time of chaos, being stressed about deadlines and trying to fit everything you can into one day. With that being said, make time for yourself. Personally, I can say that I used to be so bad at this especially after coming to college. I would prioritize other things or just simply not do much for myself. Now, I make a point to occasionally do something each week. Particularly on Sundays that will be my time to get things done. Whether that be making sure my apartment is clean-which is the best feeling ever! to even just making time to do a facial. The little things can make a huge difference. I am a firm believer that when you feel good about yourself, the work you will do can become even better. Even continuing old ways can be beneficial and make you happy. One thing that I grew up loving to do was reading books. My goal recently has been to try to make an effort to read more if I have any free time instead of being on my phone 24/7.

Not only is self care such as facials and getting your nails done, good for you but also staying active. I can't stress this enough but especially in college, it is so easy to forget to take care of yourself in that way as well. I believe that freshman year can be the hardest as you are in new surroundings with new people and no coaches are over your shoulder telling you you need to go workout. It is so important to take care of yourself in this way for many reasons. For one, no one wants to gain the freshman 15 but also it is so easy if you put a little effort in to keeping up with your health! Nowadays colleges are always trying to keep their students active by having various different types of workout classes you could join. My personal favorite is Zumba! I love to dance and you don't even realize you are working out because you are having so much fun. If the high paced workouts aren't your thing than even trying out yoga could be enjoyable! I have done yoga a couple of times and really love it. Some may not realize it but it does help lose weight and gain strength meanwhile you're not having to do some crazy workouts.

Whatever it may be that you're in to that makes you feel good, never lose sight of that! Especially while being in college it is so easy to forget about the things that you love since your time is consumed by so many other things. I can guarantee you that if you make time for yourself at least once a week you will be able to see some changes or improvements in your daily activities.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
