To The Scammers Who Pray On Innocent Victims

It is an indescribable feeling. Realizing that you sent the phone you were supposed to get $400 for to someone who just tricked you is a terrible feeling. You feel lied to, deceived and just plain dumb for not realizing what was happening sooner. I could not believe someone would be so selfish to pray off a college student just trying to make some extra cash. Actually, I can not believe people do this to anyone.

One time I was scrolling through Facebook and a saw a picture that stopped me.

When someone cuts you off on the highway and speeds away we want to honk our horns and throw up a gesture. What if this person just got news that their spouse is in labor? Or had a car accident?

You never know what is really going on in someone's life.

After seeing this I try to be more thoughtful throughout my day.

So how could someone consciously go around stealing from people?

This question haunts me. It honestly scares me when I think back to the person I was talking to. This person told me they were in the military. They made me sympathize with them. Got my trust.

Then they lied to me.

I paid extra to have it shipped faster because they were so nice and said they would pay me extra for sending it overseas. I received paypal emails that the money was in my account. It looked so real. I was so glad that the transaction was running smoothly and I even included a phone case and a note in the package for the person. I thanked them for serving our country.

They lied to me.

When I realized that the money still wasn't in my account, I emailed paypal. They told me the emails were fake. The realization hit me.

I was lied to.

Yes, it was just a cell phone. This cell phone cost me $400. $400 I wanted to put towards my tuition so my parents didn't have to pay for so much. I sent a text to this person. I told them what they did to me was awful and that they were a horrible person.

They didn't care.

I'm sure right after receiving my phone they sold it and went about scamming another person.

You are doing this to innocent, gullable people. Young adults, elderly, kids, or just people who aren't paying enough attention.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

That person might have needed that money to buy their child some medicine. They might have needed that money for their electric bill. How can you sleep at night knowing that you are taking someone's hard earned money and deceiving them?

I hope one day you get caught. I hope one day you realize what you are doing to people and feel bad. It is illegal, immoral and just plain cruel. Find a real job. Do right. Do not benefit off of other people's misfortune or mistakes.

Just stop.

Warning signs that you are being scammed:

1. Typos or sentences that don't make sense

2. Emails may use lots of asterisks, emojis, or also have typos

3. The scammer often likes to ask if they can trust you. Turning it around on you.

4. Asking if you can send money through Western Union (For fees or they may say they sent too much money and need some back)

When it doubt, don't go through with it.

If you've ever scammed someone, please stop. It's unfair and horrible. You really do not know what you may actually be doing to someone.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
