Saying 'Yes' Could Change Your Life

The three letter word that spells out Y-E-S has a bigger meaning than you may think.

Saying 'Yes' Could Change Your Life

Saying yes may seem like a simple thing: Yes please I'll have one more slice of chocolate pie, of course I'll go meet you for tea, yes absolutely I'll buy that new dress. It's like every other word that pops into our mind without critical thought.

But when you think about it, it can be just as scary. Saying yes forces you to get out of the comfort zone you've built yourself. A positive attitude can change everything. Magic happens when you say those three little letters. It can turn around a bad day and get things done.

Say yes to a new country. Say yes to finding a new hobby, say yes to learning a new language, say yes for accepting a little extra help, say yes to meeting new people. Saying yes is how you got your first job, married your spouse, had children, found your favorite vacation spot, discovered your favorite music artist and your new favorite type of food to order at the restaurant.

1. You never know what the next opportunity is, and it could change your life

Trying new things may be scary, it happens to all of us. We are human. But saying yes and going for it could be life changing in the long run. If you didn't take that chance, you'd be constantly kicking yourself thinking "Why didn't I just go for it?"

2. You'll gain more confidence and self-worth

When you say yes more often to what feels good (and is for your highest good) you open up the flood gates of opportunity. Here, you gain more beliefs in your abilities. With this confidence, it will lead to a lifelong adventure of success!

3. You'll discover new interests, skills, and opportunities you never knew existed!

Saying yes could lead you into trying things you never thought in a million years you'd be doing. Often times, it makes one realize what they've been missing out on and presents the opportunity to discover new activities that they never thought would interest them.

4. You already know what no will bring

Saying no is obviously very predictable. Saying no, you are only left out, full of regret, and lose optimism. Sameness. Nothing will change. Yes brings newness. New thoughts, experiences, goals, hobbies and dreams.

5. You will become more brave

The more you start saying yes, the easier it'll be in the long run. When you live your lifetime full of no's, you will never have the chance to even say yes because the thought of it terrifies you.

6. Find unexpected opportunities

If you don't say yes once in a while, you're missing out on things you didn't know you were missing out on. Unexpected opportunities could also lead to lifelong traditions with important people to you. Of course, not every yes will lead you to something wonderful. Instead of living your life with "What if's?" start living with "What's next?"

7. Meet new people and friends

You might be thinking, I already have friends. I don't need any new ones! But remember: you probably would have said that same thing before you met your current best friend. Some of your best friends could come into your life as a result of saying yes. You never know who will be on the other end of that yes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
