Saying Goodbye To Freshman Year

It's not a goodbye, it's a see you later.

Saying Goodbye To Freshman Year
dskap

It feels like just yesterday I was sitting at my kitchen table freaking out about starting college and now there’s only three weeks left in the semester. My first year of college is almost over and it’s bittersweet. Soon I’ll be sitting on the beach catching up with my friends from home. At the same time, I’ll miss staying up until 3 a.m. with my roommates talking about life. As the year comes to an end, I want to say thank you and good bye to my freshman year.

Saying goodbye to hours of homework and studying will not be hard. The anxiety and stress caused by those things will not be missed. It will be nice to not have to open the dreaded chemistry textbook. But thank you to all those late nights that taught me how to manage my time, and not leave everything for the last minute. Thank you to all my sleepless nights that taught me to value my naps whenever I can get them, or how to roll over and go back to sleep. Thank you to the people that were in my room until the early morning hours that taught me how to sleep through literally anything.

I’ll definitely miss being at school. Having to say goodbye to all of my friends and roommates is going to be extremely hard. However, having those people to come back to in August will make the beginning of sophomore year even more fun. It’s going to be a foreign concept to have to make plans to see people and not just be able to walk down the hall or downstairs.

Thank you to those people that made freshman year challenging. It taught me that not everyone is going to like me and that things aren’t always going to go my way. It prepared me for the real world more than I would like to admit.

The next few weeks are going to be extremely bittersweet. I’m going to miss coming “home” to my roommates and telling them about my day and all the crazy things that happened. I’ll miss our late night runs to get chicken nuggets. Thank you to my roommates for being there for me and listening to my nonsense all the time. Thank you for listening me complain about everything and for being there for me through thick and thin. Thank you to all my friends for helping me avoid all of my responsibilities but then sitting in library all night with me.

I’m ready for the semester to end so I can go home and spend time with my family. Being four hours away from home was sometimes harder than I thought it would be. I can’t wait to hear my friends from home college stories. But the spontaneous trips to Boston with my friends will be put on hold until we are back at school in the fall. Blasting music at all times will come to an end for the summer. Getting ready to go out without my roommates will feel weird. I’m not quite sure how I feel about saying goodbye to these things.

I’m ready to see where next year will take me. The thought of being a sophomore is exciting and terrifying at the same time. I know it will be a challenging year but so was freshman year and I know that I’ll be able to handle whatever life throws at me.

As much as I’m ready for freshman year to end so I can finally say hello summer, I’m really not ready to say goodbye to all the things that came along with freshman year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
