Tips on How to Survive Rush Week!

Greek life is one of the most rewarding and amazing opportunities that schools offer to its students. There are so many perks to being a part of a sorority or fraternity. Many people will say that being a part of Greek life, they have a “family away from home" and they have a strong support system.

Others contemplated transferring to a different school but stayed because they found where they fit in on campus. Greek life is a good way to get more people around campus and have better connections later in life when you’re looking for an internship or job and it looks good on a resume.

Now that you realized how amazing Greek life can be, you decided to rush a fraternity or sorority. The first thing you have to do is look at your school's policy on the requirements to be a person in Greek life. Some requirements are having a GPA higher than a certain amount, being, at least, a second-semester freshman or above, among other things. After figuring out the requirements, you now have the opportunity to get to know all the different sororities or fraternities, either through sober and non-sober events, through rush week. Here are a few things to remember while embarking on rush week.

Getting enough sleep during rush week is something that everyone will struggle with. You will be running around campus and to parties that you will soon realize that rush week feels like a month. Making sure you have enough sleep will help for when the rush plague does hit, but getting enough sleep will also keep you on your “a” game and you’ll be able to meet as many sisters as you can.

You are going to the rush events to meet sisters and brothers, not to party. Everyone is more sociable after a few drinks in them. However, keep in mind that you're there to meet potential new family, not to get wasted. It doesn’t look good on you and the sisters and brothers will take that into consideration at the end of the day. Remember, rush week is fun, but it won’t be as much fun if you're hung over because you drank a little too much the night before.

If you are serious about joining Greek life, then you need to listen to this one. Meet Everyone! If you want to join that sorority’s or fraternity's family, you need to know as many as them as possible. If they don't recognize you or haven't had a conversation with you, it will be harder for you to receive a bid. Even if you’re not the most sociable person out there, all sisters/brothers will never turn their back on a potential, so don’t be afraid to go up to sisters/brothers and start a conversation.

Be yourself as much as possible. Do not try and be someone else when you’re trying to get to know people in Greek life. The point of rush week is getting to know the people that could potentially find people that are just like you and you fit in perfectly with them. Trying to be what the typical sorority girl or frat guy is not going to get you very far. The people in Greek life are trying to find people that they believe have the same values and goals that the sorority shares.

Even though rush week can be stressful, it’s also supposed to be fun! Everyone is excited to come back to school and are excited to meet new people. So even though it may seem like everything is happening so fast and that you don't even have time to sit down and enjoy yourself, take a minute to breathe and just remember after that week is over, you'll have found people that will be in your life forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
