I live with two really, really awesome roommates. They're loyal, kind, compassionate and unique; they're two of my best friends.
But, we have a problem.
My roommates and I have an awful habit of saying terrible, untrue things about ourselves. Too often I hear one of my roommates or myself saying something like, "my thighs suck," or, "I hate the sound of my voice." We probably say worse sh*t about ourselves than anyone else has ever said about us. To me, my roommates are flawless, so why are we constantly being our own worst enemies?
We knew we had to do something to combat this problem, so we turned to the place where we typically insult ourselves the most: the mirror.
With a dry-erase marker in hand and our own reflections directly in front of us, my roommates and I decided to convert our over-sized bathroom mirror into a positivity hub. We agreed that every time we brought ourselves down, we had to write something on the mirror that we loved about ourselves.
I'll admit, it's pretty difficult to get ready in the morning when the mirror is plastered with marker, but it's totally worth it. Now every morning, night and afternoon, I'm reminded my roommates and I are so much more than our imperfect thighs or weird voices. We're ambitious, smart, passionate, loyal, independent, badass women who have great taste in music, and the mirror reminds us every day.
So, the next time you say something negative about yourself, think about all of the amazing things you have to offer. Write them down, and don't ever forget them. There's nothing wrong with a little self-love.
