I know that you often hear that you shouldn’t room with high school friends when you go off to college. People say that you should get out of your comfort zone, try new things, and most of the time, living with one of your best friends causes your friendship to fall apart. But I speak from experience. Living with one of my high school best friends was the best college decision I’ve ever made. Here are five reasons why you should consider living with your bestie.
1. They Already Know You
For me, there is nothing worse than the small talk, get-to-know-you conversations that happen when you first meet someone new. If you’re living with your best friend, they all ready know all about you! No need for 20 questions.
2. They Already Know What Annoys You
Do you hate feet? Hate having the hand towel crumpled up? Or hate country music? The chances are your best friend has picked up on that before. Which means they’re less likely to do anything that could be considered a pet peeve.

3. You Get a Brand New Experience Together
There’s nothing like going through freshman orientation week, let alone the entirety of your freshman year, with your best friend. You still get to meet people and have the grand experience, but its with your favorite person in the world!

4. You can Road Trip Home Together
What is better than a trip back home that only costs half the gas? Maybe the T-Swift jam session you get to have on the way there.

5. You Have a Built-In Best Friend
Your best friend-roommate will be there when times get tough, studying is making you crazy, or you’re really craving a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. It’s like a piece of home is always with you.

Now, all that being said, I urge you to still consider how well you and your best friend’s personalities will go together over an extended period of time. You will be around your best friend more than ever before, which can create some tension. But it is possible, and when it’s done right, it can be one of the best college experiences!
