The local music scene has been a huge part of Richmond for many years. Knowing how politically active and outspoken the people of Richmond are, politics and music were bound to come together. The Rock Against Trump Fest is a three-part series of shows in various music venues around Richmond that promote the donation-based Rock Against Trump project.
Rock Against Trump was started by VCU sophomore Tristan Taylor. Inspiration for the idea came from a similar event called "Rock Against Bush," created in 2000 by bands in the punk scene. "Rock Against Trump is a project attempting to mobilize the underground community against Donald Trump for the 2016 election," Taylor said. "We are going to use music, art, and collective thought with an anti-consumer, anti-violence, pro-peace, pro-equality, and pro-earth message."
Rock Against Trump is not a hate rally, just an opposition to one of the candidates in the 2016 election. It also does not outwardly support any other candidate but does support the Democratic Party.
The first event of the series, Rock Against Trump (Part 1,) is happening from November 6 to November 7. It will be broken up into four venues around Richmond.
