Do you remember growing up and watching those high school movies with the four best friends and wishing you had a group that you could call your own? Better late than never. My freshman year of college I found "MAAN." "MAAN" is a made up sorority that my friends and I created. MAAN stands for Maribeth, Andrea, Ashlee and Nicolay.
I first became friends with Andrea because we were the same major and had the same classes so we would walk to class together. At first it was awkward but then we became best of friends and now we're pretty much sisters.
Then I met Nicolay because she was Andrea’s roommate. While for sure I’m the mom of the group, she is the big sister and she helps me out with Andrea and Ashlee when they get at their worst.
Then I met Ashlee through Nicolay. They both have classes together so that is how they met and Nicolay introduced us to Ashlee and we became friends. Ashlee is definitely the baby sister of the group but ironically enough she is the oldest out of all four of us.
On the low, I only came to find geotags.
This is what happens when you take half of "MAAN" (MA) on an eight hour road trip.
1. The road trip music.
Not necessarily "I'm Gonna Be" by the Proclaimers, but we did end up listening to the same three songs for the first two hours of the trip. The driver at the moment, (A) did drive and dance with the upmost care.
2. When the singing got too boring, weird faces were the way to go.
And yes, every uniquely unattractive face was recorded on Snapchat and sent to "AN."
3. That moment when we both realized we still had another six hours stuck with each other.
This was followed by 30 minutes of silence.
4. "I'm feeling Disney, are you feeling Disney?"
I interjected after the 30 minutes scroll through Pinterest. It was a unanimous decision that "Enchanted" is a vastly underrated film.
5. Another half hour later, we were out of gas.
And to any wise roadtripper, gasoline break means ice cream break.
6. The legendary AUX cord.
When we returned to the road, I became the new driver and "A" took abusive advantage of the AUX. She played way too many Wiz Khalifa songs I forgot even existed.
7. My sweet relief came when she briefly fell asleep and didn't notice I shut the music off.
8. The relief wasn't too sweet, as then I was starting to get quite sleepy myself with no entertainment.
9. It was then that I heard God speak in the form of Siri telling me to take the next exit in 2.5 miles.
I was instantly perked awake.
10. The blessing of normal roads and not highways.
I was never so thankful to be at a red light. There were actual streets. Actual stop signs. It wasn't just an endless, taunting stretch of road before me. I was almost free of this car.
11. We finally made it to the neighborhood. I finally saw the driveway before me.
But not before I realized, today was Thursday (well, Friday morning) and in less than 72 hours I would have to make this trip once again. Georgia better be worth it.
"A"'s aunt was waiting for us with open arms, made beds and blankets—I realized maybe it wasn't too bad of a drive. But hopefully, the next road trip will include more drivers to choose from (aka "A" and "N").
