For some, the most boring part of traveling somewhere is the actual commute. Everything is all fine and good once you get there, but what about the time you spend on the road? Whether it's going home for the holidays, or just journeying somewhere new, these are just a few tips to make your traveling experience a better one:
1. Find a travel buddy!
Road trips are so much better when you have someone to keep you company. Whether it's chatting about whatever, having obnoxious singalongs to pass time, or merely using them as a navigator, two (or three) is better than one.
2. Have a good travelin' playlist!
Traveling is much more fun with music, and it's passes the time. Make sure to throw some songs in there that everybody will enjoy. Songs that are fun to sing and dance to are a plus (at least for the passengers in the car). Driver, you've got to keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel, but you can still sing along.
3. Food.
Snacks. Snacks are important. It's best to stock up before you hit the road, because one you're on the road, it may be harder to find a place to grab food. There are always the rest stops, of course, but rest stop locations jack the prices because they know they're your only option.
4. Frequent rest stops!
Stop. You may think that 80 miles to the next rest stop isn't far, until you have to pee with 68 miles to go. Also drivers, please remember that there are other bladders in the car besides yours. Even if nobody has to go, it's always good to stretch your legs and have a breath of fresh air.
5. Games!
There's some classic games like, spotting road signs or license plate alphabet, or you can create your own. Try spicing it up by wailing/groaning/whining every time you pass a truck. If you're on a busy road, you're bound to see a lot of them anyway. Not only does it keep the entire car on their toes, it's also lets off a lot of steam that comes with traveling (and road rage).
