9 Things You Must Have On A Road Trip

Summer Road Trip Essentials

My summer vacations are not complete without a couple road trips. In my opinion all a trip has to do to be considered a road trip is it has to be a long enough car ride that your butt hurts at the end of it and you have got a least one good story out of it. I've found most road trips last at least two days but it really depends on your preference. Different Road trips call for different things but i've compiled a list of essentials that every road trip is not complete without.

1. A Final Destination

Your destination can be anywhere. I know it is cliche but sometimes it is not really the destination that really matters in the end, it is the journey. As long as you have fun along the way that is what is important.

2. A Playlist

Spotify is great for this or if you want you can even make a mixed CD to play. Music is key on road trips because it keeps everyone lively and keeps everyone in a good mood.

3. Snacks

On some of those back roads there will not be any where to stop for food, so snacks are essential to have the in car. Something easy and fast to eat is the best choice. I usually go with granola bars or those little snack packs you used to get in your lunchbox at school.

4. A Trustworthy GPS

A GPS is pretty much the most important thing in my opinion. A lot of cars nowadays have them built in but if your car doesn't, make sure you've got one either on your phone or one of the ones you can attach to your dashboard. Getting completely lost is no fun, trust me.

5. A McDonalds / Starbucks Run

At least one Starbucks run in the morning for coffee and one McDonalds run in the afternoon for a quick meal. For me it really is not a road trip if I haven't had at least one container of french fries.

6. Pit Stops

You would be surprised with some of the really weird roadside attractions I have seen while on my road trips. I love stopping at them just to get a little break from the road. They are usually free and do not add too much time to your trip so why not just go and see them.

7. Enthusiastic Friends

Nothing is more important than having one or a few friends with you on your trip. The long hours lead to really deep conversations alongside the jokes and funny parts of the ride.

8. Car Games

I know it might sound lame but still one of my favorite things to play on long trips is the license plate game. It is pretty straight forward you just try and see license plates from all 50 states. It is a lot harder than it sounds, I promise.

9. An open mind

Really anything can happen on a road trip and you need to keep your mind open to what could happen. Sometimes they do not always turn out how you wanted them to but i would say 9 times out of 10 something interesting and memorable will happen.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
