You finally did it! Whether you have just completed your first ever year in college, second year or the very last year, you have accomplished getting through finals and you can finally get home to your friends and family. However, this is not going to be just like coming back home from a couple weeks away at summer camp.

You are an accomplished adult in training now, and after you have been living independently for the whole past year, it is very easy to fall back into the trap of relying on mom and dad to do anything and everything for you. So in order to stop that from occurring, here are just a few tips to help you survive getting through summer vacation while still having time to enjoy yourself.

1. Work is your new best friend

Think about how much easier everything will be the more time you spend working, making money now over break rather than when you have to struggle to make rent money during midterms week next year. Save up money now and budget safely.

2. But taking time to enjoy your vacation is important too

Do not overwork yourself. This is still your vacation so make sure you are making the most of it with friends and family that you've been missing all year.

3. Your dogs missed you more than anyone else

Give the dogs some love, don't just drop all of your things off and leave the house again. They missed you so much.

4. You are not just a guest in your home

You may be living at home again, but you are not just allowed to sit around all summer. Help out with cleaning, cooking and whatever else needs to get done. It'll make your life easier.

5. Remember to text your friends you met at school

You are not going to get to see one another for the next couple months so make sure to give them some love while they get used to living back at home as well.

6. Make new memories

Your college memories are important, but so are the ones you make with real friends and family over the summer.

7. Take care of your well being

The last few weeks of finals was stressful for everyone so everyone was eating coffee, sandwiches, ramen noodles, and whatever else they could get their hands on. Take this vacation to get back into the swing of exercising, healthy eating, and normal sleeping hours.

This summer will be the best summer it can be as long as you make the best out of it. Surrounded by loved ones while also taking care of yourself and your finances is all that should be your focus right now. Breathe, finals are over. Now just sit back and finally let yourself relax.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
