The 90’s have been back for awhile now. Though we may have grown from the days of fuzzy Lisa Frank folders and Tamagotchies, we can all partake in the new fashion trends. Everyone’s rocking chokers, platform shoes and plaid miniskirts. You may be asking yourself, "But what about the 2000's? Can't we show them some love?" Have no fear! The iconic Juicy Couture tracksuit is back and better than ever.
Any 2000s girl can remember the days of Paris Hilton and Kim K rocking velour sweat suits low on their hips to reveal super tan midriffs while lunching after a long night of socialite-ing. Their super cool relaxed style was the envy of every tween girl. I still remember begging my mom for a matching cherry print terry cloth set to wear to the pool with friends in sixth grade. The look was so iconic that a classic Juicy sweatsuit is now on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum!
However, the "athlesire" trend has changed a bit since its socialite days. Instead of being the go-to look for hungover sorority girls or uber stylish tweens, the tracksuits are getting a modern day twist from 2016’s fashion it girls. According to Liana Satenstein of the holy grail fashion magazine Vogue, the correct way to rock velour no longer involves rhinestone-encrusted backsides or spray tanned tummies. For a more relaxed look, she recommends pairing jogger style velour bottoms with a neutral crop top and statement bomber jacket. Not wearing the sweatshirt and pants together may be an upset to Juicy purists, but it does remove a bit of the cheesiness associated with a full tracksuit. For a more dressed up option, she styles the same black joggers with a chunky knit on top and an equally thick heel on the bottom. An awesome way to use transition the pants from a day to night look.
For us college students, I think we can get away with rocking the classic matching two-piece look. With Juicy Couture’s new addition of the on tend jogger style, the look becomes a more tailored one rather than the sloppy flared leg trend of the past. Juicy’s new Black Label launched at Bloomingdales in July and has been a hit in the fashion world. Be sure to check out their collection and bring a little 2000s style to your wardrobe.
