Dear #MomsForKavanaugh, As A Young Catholic Woman, You Do NOT Speak For Me

There has been a video put on Twitter that shows Catholic mothers supporting Brett Kavanaugh because they do not want their sons to have their lives ruined due to false sexual assault accusations.

Dear #MomsForKavanaugh, As A Young Catholic Woman, You Do NOT Speak For Me

I want to start by saying I am a young woman who is proud to be Catholic. I love my faith, I love Jesus, I love traditional mass services. What I do not love is when people tarnish the Catholic faith by being obnoxious. There was a video posted on Twitter that seems so sweet until the 45-second mark when it turns political and into support of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

In this video, that has gone viral, it shows Kavanaugh claiming he is innocent of a sexual assault charge and then goes on to put "If it can happen to him..." and fills in "to our sons, brother, and fathers." In reading the conversation strand following the video it states that "Catholic moms created an ad in support of Kavanaugh in tribute to their sons who they fear can be attacked one day by slutty wicked liar women claiming sexual harassment."

This very literally makes me sick.

While I understand the teaching of the Catholic faith can be complicated and the Bible can be confusing to interpret, shaming women in such a manner goes against everything Jesus died for. Whether Kavanaugh actually sexually assaulted anyone or who you believe in this unprovable, decade-old debate does not matter. What matters here is that God tells us so many time in the Bible to love everyone and not harm each other, yet in this Twitter video these #MomsForKavanaugh are making the Catholic Church, capital C because this refers to the entire human population of the church, look disrespectful.

With all of this being said I am not stating that the accusations will always be valid. There are some people who will falsely accuse, there are people that will claim they are innocent when they are guilty, there is no good answer to fixing the sexual harassment and assault issue in this country. I urge everyone in these terrible situations to pray. Pray for forgiveness and clarity, for understanding and the help that you need, and for people who are guilty to come forward and for people who are not guilty to find justice.

I type this knowing there are other Catholics who agree with me, this video is disgraceful and I promise if you are a victim of sexual assault and tell someone that is Catholic the majority will not shame you. We will pray for you and help you as much as we can. I beg people not to take this faction of mother's in the Catholic church as what the majority of people who are Catholic believe.

Please take a moment out of your day to pray over sexual assault victims and people falsely accused of sexual assault.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
