Not My President

The pride I have for culture will not be destroyed by a BIGOT

The inauguration of Trump has sparked a fire in me. It has ignited this sense of self, sense of being, sense of identity. Now more than ever, I know who I am, where I come from, what I stand for, what I believe, and what my roots are. I know that I am a loud, proud, crazy, outspoken Latina, that is not afraid of some BIGOT that this country decided to elect as the president. I don't care about what anyone thinks of me, because that will not change how I think about myself. I am beautiful, where I come from is beautiful, my ancestors are beautiful, my history is beautiful, my story is beautiful. So it doesn't matter what Trump does, he can't take away what I have inside. He can't destroy the beauty of my life, and of the lives of those he wants to marginalize.

The BOY that has been chosen to lead this country is completely insane. He has threatened so many people, and all out of pure ignorance. He speaks words of hatred, words that cut people deeply. I don't understand how anyone with a heart could have voted for him. But right now, it's not my job to understand their side. It is my job, your job, our job to stand together and to stand against everything he represents. I ask that we put in the effort to stand in solidarity with those that are different from us, people whose lives could be affected by the changes to come.

Some people may say that I'm just another angry Latina with an attitude, that doesn't know how to behave. Well, I say FUCK those people. Those people don't realize the kind of damage this BOY wants to do as president. So no, I will not sit down and shut my mouth. I will not stay quiet. I will voice my opinion and I will be heard. I don't plan on sitting on the sideline like you want me to. I will fight for my rights as a woman, as a Latina, as a minority. I will fight for the rights of all women, especially women of color, for the LGBTQ community, for Muslims, for immigrants, for migrant workers, for African Americans. I will fight for the people that can't fight for themselves. I will stand by those that need the support. I will hold my ground, and I will make a difference.

You hear that Trump, I am not scared of you. I don't care who you think you are, I will not let you hurt anyone that does not deserve it. Your ignorance will not prevail, and your actions will not make us crumble. Remember this, the only way I will leave this country is when you buy my ticket out of here. Until then, be afraid of the flame inside of me. Because every day it burns brighter and brighter!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
