A Reminder To My Future Self

Regardless of where I'm at in my life, I have to remember that my happiness needs to come first.

When no one else has faith in you, I will.

It hasn't been easy. Life so far has had its ups and downs that's for sure and I know the future will be the same. But that's what makes life the crazy ride that it is. College can be stressful at times and I know you're ready to start that next chapter in your life but remember to enjoy the ride along the way. Don't get too wrapped up with what is going on in everyone else's lives. I know that sometimes this gets hard when you scroll through Facebook and see five people getting engaged or how someone else has graduated college. Sometimes it might feel like you're a little behind in life and that everything is just falling into place for everyone else but remember that you don't see what goes on behind closed doors. Just because someone's life looks perfect doesn't mean that it is. So be happy that it seems like your friends have their lives together, even when you feel like you don't. This doesn't mean that you don't have your life together though, it just means that you're in a different stage in your life than they are.

Quit worrying about what everyone else is doing and just focus on yourself. Be young and crazy. Enjoy this time of being young and free. Work, save up some money and go places that you've never been before. Don't stress so much about falling in love or getting married and having kids because those things will come when they are supposed to. I want you to see the world and enjoy living life with few responsibilities while you can. Worry about your own happiness first, then see what you can do for everyone else in your life that you care about. You have always been a "people pleaser," that's just part of who you are. But there comes a time when you need to put your happiness first and do what's best for you whether that's moving across the country or just being yourself.

Sometimes we all need a reality check but sometimes we need just the opposite. Don't be afraid to do something different or go out and spend money because we all need to have fun some fun and enjoy life while we can. Just remember that when hard times strike to believe in yourself and everything will work out the way it's supposed to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
