5 Reasons You Should Attend Relay For Life At WCU

Grab your calendars, planners, and reminders and mark down April 29th...its Relay time! West Chester University is hosting our 11th annual Relay For Life on April 29th from noon to midnight at the Hollinger Field House. There are millions of reasons to come to Relay, but here are 5 of the best:

1. Cause

First and foremost, Relay For Life is all about the cause. Every year, we raise money for The American Cancer Society to aid them in research, help people go to Hope Lodge, and so much more. Not only do we raise money, we raise awareness

2. Fundraiser

Since our main goal is to raise money for the American Cancer Society, most of our money comes from Relay. From signing up, to raffle baskets, to goodies you can buy there, there are many opportunities to raise money at Relay.

3. Entertainment

12 hours is a very long time, but it won't feel long with all that we have planned. From zumba to therapy dogs, dodge ball to kickball, and countless laps around the gym, this day will fly by and leave you wanting more. We'll even have some friendly competition to keep things fun.

4. Theme

Every year we have a new theme to incorporate into our jam packed day. This year's theme is one of my personal favorites: Dr. Seuss! We are going to transform Hollinger into different Dr. Seuss books that you'll feel like you're actually there! Come dresses as your favorite Dr. Seuss character and compete for our "Who's The Best Who" contest.

5. Who You're There For

Unfortunately, everyone has been affected by cancer. Whether its your family member, neighbor, friend, or classmate, cancer has touched all of our lives. We all set aside 12 hours of our day, no matter how busy we are, to come together for this amazing event. We raise money and awareness, we laugh and cry, we honor and remember all of those who have been affected by cancer.

Its not too late to register for Relay! We are in the final weeks before the big day so grab a friend, make a team, or register as an individual but sign up! Visit www.relayforlife.org/pawestchester to register (use code RELAY2017 for a $5 sign up before April 9th). If you are a survivor, or know anyone who is a survivor, please come join us. You don't want to miss out on this amazing event....see everyone on April 29th!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
