Inviting God into your life is one thing, but inviting God in to your relationship is another. Relationships are not meant to be for two people to figure out life together. They are meant for two people to work together to make God the most important aspect of each other's lives.
A quote says, "Dance with God and he will let the perfect man cut in." When you're single, it's important to find happiness in being alone. If you can't be happy alone then you won't be able to be happy with someone else. But God won't let just anyone cut in - this man should be someone who is going to bring you closer to Christ, rather than farther away. But in this case, you should also be someone who is going to bring your guy closer to Christ. It works both ways.
Many couples settle for relationships for one. In other words, they're in a relationship, but don't communicate with their partner the way they should. They keep secrets or do things behind their backs. Maybe they talk to their friends about problems in their relationship, but they won't communicate with the one person they need to communicate with about the problems. These are the people who stay in relationships just to say they are in one.
Relationships for two are the ones where you try to figure out life together without asking for help. There is no guidance from friends, adults, or God. Sometimes couples think all that they need is each other - which isn't true. This can lead to fights or having your relationship progress faster than is healthy. Take it slow, work through things, and ask for help from people who have done it before.
Relationships for three - those are the ideal. The relationships that involve a couple, as well as God, are the ones that have the potential to go the farthest. Allowing God to lead both of you in the right direction and looking to him for advice rather than taking advice from the world is what can make relationships grow the most. This is because the relationship becomes less about yourself and more about the other person, while bringing both of you closer to Christ.
