A Reflection On My Freshman Year

Memories are important for many reasons: to remember the times that have shaped us and to reminisce.

A Reflection On My Freshman Year
Jess Croak

With only weeks left of my Freshman year of college, I can’t believe it is coming to a close. One year ago, I was counting the days until high school graduation and as I reflect back, I can’t fathom where the year has gone. I am very grateful and proud of how far I have come, and so should everyone who has just completed their freshman year.

Coming into college not really sure what to expect was terrifying and remarkable all at the same time. Personally, I feel I have come a long way, from the experiences I have had to the independence I have gained, I would say my first year has been a success. As for the school part, I have always been a diligent, motivated, and strong worker; however, college has pushed me even more to reach my goals and fulfill my personal potential.

So far college has gone by way too fast; even though I am excited for a break from studying and long hours doing homework, I am thankful I was able to spend the past year learning about life, and learning about myself. I feel I have accomplished a lot in the past year, more than what I would have projected one year ago. I honestly did not know what to expect from college, but everything worked out and has made me excited to continue my education and prepare for my future career.

Some advice to those entering college: do not rush it, it really does fly by. You will enter college and feel so small just as you entered high school, as the “baby” of the campus. That is how we grow; we all start from the beginning and work our way up to the top. College is a rollercoaster with up’s and down’s, but in the end you will get back on track. It is important to begin college with an open mind, take every opportunity that comes your way and for the ones you could not take, be grateful they came your way. College is the start to something wonderful, the start to your life, and the beginning of your adulthood. As you enter college you will continue growing and adjusting to this new lifestyle. One last piece of advice: take your education seriously because as long as you try your best, you have already succeeded.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
