It's crazy how fast time passes. This year has gone by in the blink of an eye, and my sophomore year is already coming to an end. The amount that changed in just one year is incredible.
Freshman year is definitely the best year in my opinion. Everything is new, you have independence for the first time, you can do whatever you want, and it's all based on your own decisions.
Your second year, however, is a bit different.
Sophomore year is when you realize which people you actually want to surround yourself with. It's when you begin to realize what you really care about, and what matters more to you. You start to learn more about who you are, and what you're interested in. Think back to how you were in high school, and look at where you are now. Things can change tremendously in one year.
During my sophomore year, I dropped my sorority and moved out of my original dorm. I signed a lease, then subleased it and signed a different lease. I kept old friends, lost a couple, and made new ones in the process. I had my very first internship, and worked throughout the year. It certainly had its ups and downs.
Now, I'm a leasing consultant, and I'm interviewing for other internships for the summer and for next year. It's no longer a question of what I want to do with my career, and whether my major is for me or not. I have a clear image of what I want to do in the future, and I know what I like. I learned, I experienced new things, and I grew. I changed and grew as a person, and realized that some things just no longer fit in my life.
But there is an up side to all of this.
I have made amazing friendships this year. My best friend is a girl I met in my calculus class, and now I can't think of how my life was before I met her. She has been there for me through thick and thin, and I'm so grateful. I have met so many people that made an impact on my life, and have supported me with all of my decisions. I've learned how to manage my time better, and I have been focusing more on my career. I discovered what I wanted to prioritize in my life, and I followed through with my plans.
Freshman year may be the best year, but sophomore year is the year where you learn the most about yourself. You're not an upperclassman yet, but you're also no longer an underclassman. You know what you enjoy, and nothing is new to you anymore. You're getting ready to prepare for your future, because in just two years, you'll be graduating. It seems far away at the moment, but it'll go by quickly.
Get to know yourself, and focus on your interests. Spend your college years by trying new things, taking risks, and having fun while also maintaining the motivation for your goals.
College is the best four years of your life, so make the most of it.
