Why The "Red Cup" Supports Christianity

Yes, I know you are about to say to yourself, "Oh no. This religious freak is about to go on and on about how this simple red cup, which is just a cup, makes a statement about Christianity." Well, I am going to talk about how this simple red cup reminds me of why my Christian walk should be just as simple. Us Christians have lost sight of what really matters. I personally don't care about who can marry who, what the state deems OK for its national pledge, or even if my fellow peers do or don't believe what I believe.

When I saw this cup, I was like most Christians: ignorant of the simplicity in it. It's RED! The color screams my faith and is the main color of Jesus' birthday. Now, let me explain a little bit so you can see exactly where my mind got this from.

I was looking at my Facebook, just scrolling through the cat videos and embarrassing pictures when I saw a video about the Red Cup. My first reaction was to be really mad because the guy in the video told me I should be mad. Acknowledge what I just typed: "TOLD ME I SHOULD BE MAD." This is the first issue since I shouldn't be told what goes against my religion. So I did some research.

Jesus, even if you don't believe everything the bible says about what he did or that he is God's son, was a very peaceful person who didn't take peoples' questioning of his religion to heart. He knew how to get through to people by being kind and practicing what he preached. As Christians, it's really hard to live like Jesus did, because we're not perfect. But that's where this cup reminded me of something I tend to forget a lot.

Jesus lived to shed his blood for our sins. What color is blood? RED! So Starbucks might not have meant to make this statement, but, for me, I'm thankful for this simple red cup. In my busy life, I forget how simple it all really is. My faith is not a chore. I don't have to scream "MERRY CHRISTMAS" at the top of my lungs because my actions throughout the year should represent that I celebrate this wonderful holiday. I don't have to prove to anyone, just like the cup, that I am celebrating Christmas because it's a simple holiday that many Christians tend to go overboard with.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
