On Friday, Sept. 25, the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha had their very first date function event of the new Fall semester. The event was held at Barcadia just outside of campus at Northgate. For returning members, we already knew that these events are something to look forward to and we’ve been waiting for them to start back up again all summer long. For the newest additions to our chapter, however, we definitely made sure that they understood that their first event as a new member was something to be excited about.
The theme of the event was “Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of the Crown.” However, it was not the typical America-themed, Fourth of July throwdown. It had a bit of a twist. Each girl and her date picked one of the 50 states, and dressed as something related to that state, like an invention or TV show. For example, a couple could dress up as characters from Friday Night Lights in order to be Texas, the location in which the show takes place. Or they could dress up as baseball players in order to be New York, the birthplace of baseball. Some girls got really creative. Some of the best costumes included Jackie and Kelso from That 70s Show, Cabbage Patch Kids, S’mores, and Mount Rushmore. And, of course there were plenty of Hawaiians and baseball players to go around. Everyone got to see each member’s creativity shine through all the different costumes.
Barcadia was definitely a unique venue. In my opinion, it was unlike any other GRUB experience. There were games everywhere. And, there was even a competition! Director of Social, Sara Ducote, set up a bracket for all 50 states. Every time a couple won a game, they would put a tally up on the board by their state.
Of course, the games did not get in the way of the music and the dancing. Barcadia provided some great music and plenty of space both inside and outside. Food was also served, including some delicious chicken.
The event lasted from 9 to 12, and that was plenty of time for us to hang out, dance and have fun with our sisters and with our dates. It was an absolutely amazing first event of the year. But we have so much more to look forward to as October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is coming up fast.
This past Sunday, we also hosted our second annual Capture the Cure capture the flag tournament with boys from the LSU fraternities. Shout out to Allison Boudreaux and Taylor Amedee for working so hard to make this event so much fun. In addition, our annual philanthropy event, Pinktoberfest, is coming up this Friday at the Zeta house from 6-9 P.M. On Saturday, we will be handing out pink stickers for this year’s first “pink out” game for the LSU-Eastern Michigan game. And Sunday, we will be traveling to New Orleans to hand out pink ribbons at the Saints football game in partnership with the NFL as well as the Louisiana ZTA chapters. What a wonderful time to be a Delta Kappa ZTA!
