Since the beginning of time, it has been known that men are the ones who are supposed to make the first move when it comes to relationships. But, why is that the case? What’s the harm? I’ve been making the first move ever since I can remember, and here’s why.
1. It’s empowering.
I feel as though men tend to feel powerful when it comes to making the first move. Knowing that you were the one to go out there and get what you want reassures me that I am a powerful woman. Momma didn’t raise no fool! So go on ladies, go get your man!
2. It makes you feel in control.
I don’t know about you, but more than anything, I like to know that I am the one in control, especially when it comes to a relationship. Making the first move provides me with that control and helps me to understand that I don’t need a man to do everything for me.
3. It creates a new dynamic.
As mentioned above, men are usually the ones who are “supposed” to make the first move. However, when a woman does it, it can change the way they are looked at by men and make the relationship much more interesting.
4. It takes the pressure off of men.
I’m sure with the expectations of men making the first move, there must be some pressure that they feel. Ladies, let’s take the pressure off them and show them that we can do exactly what they can do (and maybe even better).
5. It breaks the stereotype.
Women are seen as delicate little flowers waiting to be watered. Let me argue that viewpoint with two words: HELL NO. There is nothing I want more than to break that stereotype. Women are strong. I want to be the one to go out there and get what I want. I want everyone to know that I did that as a woman.
6. It’s attractive.
There is nothing more attractive than putting yourself out there. When a man knows that you took the time out of your day to talk to them first, it lets them know that you were confident enough to be fearless. Confidence is sexy.
7. Women are at an advantage.
As women, we are at an advantage because we already know what we want. If there is a connection between a woman and a man, a woman can have a good idea about what the response is going to be with that first interaction. Making the first move can help the process of asking a man out to flow much more smoothly especially by taking the pressure off of men and showing them what we want.
If you’re ever unsure about making the first move when it comes to a man, don’t be. Making the first move can help you in so many ways. And if you get shot down, then on to the next one. I can’t tell you how many times that I have been shot down. But do I let that affect me? Not at all. If anything, it makes me stronger and teaches me more about myself. That way I can be more prepared when it comes to making the first move with someone else. So if you’re still sitting there and wondering if you should text him first? YES, GIRL. Go ahead. Press that send button. You might be happily surprised with the outcome.
