5 REASONS YOU SHOULD OWN A DOG

Many dog owners can tell you that having one has changed their lives. Being one of the said owners myself, I can personally vouch for that. Nothing beats coming from home from a long day of school, work, or sometimes even both, and having your best friend waiting for you, it's a great feeling. Here are 5 reasons why everyone should own a dog.

1. They make for great companions.

We are our dog's whole world. While we have many things going on in our everyday life, they only have us, and it shows. It's nearly impossible to feel lonely with them constantly at our side. They follow us around, give us love and affection, and are always there when we need them.

2. They help you stay active.

Being a dog owner grants you many responsibilities. One of which is getting them out and about for some exercise. Exercises like taking your pup out for a walk, to play fetch, or even to a park. Owning a dog helps you spend some of that phone time on your feet being active, leading to a healthier, better you.

3. They make you more social.

As someone who has a dog, I can attest to this. I can't count how many times I've taken my dog for a walk, or to a dog park, and started conversations with people I otherwise would've never spoken to. I've even made a few friends in the process. Many people have problems making social connections and a dog could be the perfect ice-breaker to make some.

4. They teach responsibility.

A lot of kids' first sense of responsibility growing up is taking care of their dog. Training them, feeding them, and making sure they're let outside. Caring for a dog teaches consistency, commitment, as well as developing a respect for life. These are valuable things that everyone should learn.

5. They help reduce stress.

Our dogs can feel when we're different. Their sense of smell allows them to detect subtle chemical changes in our bodies. Petting, playing with, really any type of interaction with your dog can help relieve some of the stress that comes along with life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
