3 Reasons To Consider Greek Life

3 Reasons To Consider Greek Life

Entering Hunter College, I was as saturated with ideas as I was with anxiety. Joining a sorority, however, was not one of them. Though a fair share of shows and movies depict them to be primarily an excuse to party, I witnessed an entirely new filling within the cake that is Greek life.

1. Service

Solely through rushing for Zeta Phi Alpha I was able to see the wonders Greek life can bring. I smelled the ambition throughout each room the sisters stepped foot in. Their determination was contagious. There wasn't a single doubt in my mind that when they introduced themselves as a philanthropic sorority they truly meant they were a philanthropic sorority.

By the time I crossed, I had already attended a handful of service events that ranged from bake sales, card making events, walks for good causes and other tabling activities. While participating in these events, I knew that there were many more of them stored for the future.

2. Diversity

An important aspect of my sorority that compelled me to join is the diversity throughout it. There are so many girls of different ethnic backgrounds, career paths and ages. From just the few girls that I communicated with before pursuing my journey to become a diamond I easily related to them. This continued to the case with everything else I was introduced with in the future.

3. Sisterhood

Most importantly, I have found myself passing metaphoric trust falls with each and every girl in the sorority. There isn't a single one I am not proud to call my sister. It is a warm and comforting feeling to know that I have a handful of girls who have my back at any point in time. I am there for them as they are for me. It is a true sisterhood and I would recommend it to anyone.

There is someone out there who understands you, connects with you, and supports you endlessly and timelessly. In fact there are many people of that category and the best way to find them is through the magical realm of Greek life. If I learned anything from being part of a sorority it is that they are the farthest from anything superficial.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
