8 Reasons Why Summer Is Better In The Berkshires

These are some of the best things that you can only do during the warm summer months in the Berkshires.

Summer is a great season, but even better when you get to spend it in the Berkshires. With the mountains and lakes throughout the county there are endless opportunities to go out with friends or family and have a great day. From activities that are made even better because of the nice weather, to the seasonal attractions that open up, there is no way you wake up on a beautiful day with no options on how to spend it.

1. Heaven For Hikers and Explorers

There are state parks and reservations from Clarksburg to Sheffield. Hiking is always an option because there are so many state reservations and parks all over the county. You will never run out of trails to explore or beautiful sights that require a little bit of a hike.

2. Baseball Season

Watching a baseball game is always a good way to spend a nice evening in either Pittsfield or North Adams. Both towns have their own teams that play weekly games that are cheap and always filled with fun between innings, and they have good ticket deals throughout the whole season!

3. Pedrins

Good food and great outdoor seating is what you can expect when you take a trip to the infamous Pedrins Dairy Bar. With a variety of food and ice cream you'll never be disappointed (unless you're stuck in the long line). You also have the option to sit at one of the variously colored picnic tables to enjoy your treats and the weather.

4. Sidewalk Dining

Even with so many restaurants a lot of people tend to get bored with eating inside all the time. The air-conditioner is nice on days when the heat is unbearable, but on breezy days being able to see the life of town is even better. A lot of restaurants that are on a busy street like North Street in Pittsfield, or Main Street in North Adams offer outside dining when the weather is nice, and I suggest you always take advantage of it.

5. Street Festivals

Speaking of Main Street in Berkshire County, the summer is a very lively time for the downtown areas of some of the towns. During the summer there are multiple street fairs/festivals that attract people from all over. A lot of these street gatherings have certain themes like the "Eagle Street Beach Party" that takes place in North Adams, the entirety of Eagle Street is covered in sand with kiddie pools scattered throughout the sand. The public comes for a few hours of sand castle building, live music and tons of fun.

6. Swimming

Swimming has been a summer time activity since the beginning of time, right? But swimming in the same five foot deep pool can get boring after a couple years. The best things about the Berkshires being a mountainous region is there are so many swimming holes, quarries and lakes to swim in a different spot every week of the summer.

7. Tanglewood

Concerts in the summer are always something to look forward to, but made even more exciting when they take place at Tanglewood in Lenox. This music venue is booked to host events and concerts all summer and always has an amazing turnout because the tickets aren't outrageously priced. Being able to kick back and listen to some good music with friends without having to travel very far is always a good way to spend some of your summer nights.

8. Sunsets

The absolute best part of summer time in the Berkshires is the endless amount of gorgeous sunsets. Whether you see it looking out your bedroom window, over a lake, or off of a mountain, the brilliant colors of the sunset over the mountains will leave you breathless each time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
