While studying abroad in Spain, I have picked up many Spanish habits and come to love their customs. The one that I have come to love the most and plan to keep around when I travel back to the States is the Siesta. A siesta is a nap after a large lunch and possibly the greatest thing ever and I'm going to tell you why.
1. Napping is the best solution to getting rid of a food baby.
Everyone gets them when we have eaten too much and really there is no way to make it go away in a timely manner so you might as well nap.
2. A way to catch up on sleep.
Whether you were out with friends or watching Netflix until the wee hours of the morning, we all could use some extra sleep.
3. You get ahead for the night to come.
If you are going out that night, a siesta makes sure you won't be falling asleep in the middle of all the fun.
4. Nothing happens in the afternoon anyway.
There are never really important events or meets in the afternoon anyway so why not pass the time by napping.
5. You will be happier in the evening.
Since events actually take place in the evening, when you go you won't be as cranky because of sleep deprivation.
6. You will be more relaxed.
Nothing is better than waking up from a nice nap and feeling refreshed.
7. You can be more productive.
No one can study or get work done when they are falling asleep at their desk. Instead, take a quick nap and then wake up ready to get stuff done.
8. You will have a break from people.
Dealing with people all day is exhausting, so having a quick nap is a nice escape from having to care about other peoples problems.
9. You get a break from technology.
This may not seem like a bonus but staring at screens all day is hard on our eyes and mind therefore a short break is good for us.
10. Reliving the most missed thing since PreSchool.
We all hated naps as kids but now we look back and wish we could take a nap everyday and to that I say, "Why can't we?"
Whether you need to catch up on sleep, prepare for the night ahead, or are just bored, Siestas are the way to spend boring afternoons after lunch.
