Reason's Why I Love The Band Real Friends
Bands In Town

In recent years, the band Real Friends has been getting bashed by people who don't like the kind of art they create. I've compiled a list of 10 reasons why I love the band Real friends and a little bit of how they impacted my life.

2. Dam Lambton's Voice

His voice is so distinct and feels vulnerable when it needs to be. It also feels like a real person is signing about real life things instead of some pop star singing a hit song about the miserableness of life that was probably written by Max Martin or Shellbeck.

3. Their lyrics are really, really deep

For some reason, I've always been sucker for deep lyrics and story telling. It's hard to share that too, so in a way through their music tells stories about things they go through which people can find how they're always not alone.

4. They quote lyrics from their songs on social media

5. They sing songs about late night drives with sad songs

I do it a lot when I'm home from college and my parents still don't understand. Maybe they just lost their youth years ago. Dan even created a playlist on Spotify titled Songs for Late Night Drives and many more playlists as well. GO CHECK THEM OUT!

6. They're from Tinley Park, Illinois

Being only an hour away from this town and growing up a lot in Chicago I appreciate any band from the Midwest. The Midwest is not boring and we have an awesome music scene by the way.

And they know what it feels like when you're older where you come from.

7. They play really spectacular acoustic

8. They reference other bands in their songs

Yes, we've all been in the place and time where we have a lonely night and all we have is Jimmy Eat World. No really, it did happen to me. I was driving home from my friend's house who I had just had a fallout with and lived about two hours away. My phone died before I even got in the car so I couldn't play music through my phone. I had one album. Future by Jimmy Eat World. It was too true. The band also references Death Cab for Cutie (please correct me if I missed any other bands).

9. Their Facebook posts are so encouraging

10. They are just people writing songs and playing instruments

The band isn't trying to go down in history (even though they already have in a lot of people's books). They aren't trying to be the new Wonder Years, Knuckle Puck, or the next Fall Out Boy. They're just sharing their stories as they come and create a very welcoming place at their shows.

Recently they had to cancel a winter tour in Australia due to lead vocals Dan Lambton's mental health. They have rescheduled the dates and all other tickets are still valid. See them on tour in The USA here. I'm happy to see the band and managers still take into account one's health and mental health. Mental health is nothing to joke about and almost more important than physical health. I hope he is doing better and receiving the support he needs.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
