Going to a school out-of-state means that I only come back to my hometown a couple of times a semester for holidays. I always look forward to coming home, because it means home-cooked meals, dad jokes, and most importantly, my hometown friends.
I remember that the summer before my freshmen year of college, my group of friends made a promise to each other to keep in touch and stay close. As the years went on, as expected, people changed as they found themselves in college and some lost touch, but it is those friends that have stuck by my side no matter what that I am truly thankful for. Here are a couple of reasons why I love my friends from home.
1. You can always begin a good story with "remember when"
2. You never feel judged when you tell them something personal, because you know basically everything about them
3. You are completely comfortable with each other
4. When you are all together, you are the weirdest human beings imaginable
5. You know they always have the latest on the people you graduated with
6. You know that they will always be friends with you because they saw you through all of the painfully awkward high school days
7. They keep you grounded and remind you to appreciate the little things in life
8. They have your back no matter what and have supported you through all of your questionable decisions that you've made at college
9. You have an ongoing group message that is reserved to just compare schedules and see when you are home next
10. You're friends with their family and they treat you like one of their own
11. Their family always makes the best food
12. Your hangouts always include or are centered around food
13. You can tell all of your horrible jokes that you say at school all over again and it's their first time hearing them
14. They always know the right thing to say, even if they don't know the whole story of what just happened
15. You know that even when you're hundreds of miles away from each other, they would drop anything for you to help you through whatever you may need
16. You can vent to them about anything and you know that they will keep your secrets
17. You never have to explain any background to family/boyfriend/high school drama, because they have been through it all with you
18. You're already scared for what story they will tell about you at your wedding
19. Whenever you see each other, you have an encyclopedia of awkward moments, crazy stories, and juicy details to spill
20. You can go months without seeing or talking to each other and whenever you meet back up, it's like no time has passed at all
