Finally, it’s January, and I don’t know about you, but I am hyped! No, it’s not entirely because of the New Year, though I am happy we’re saying “See ya,” to 2016. It’s because January is my birthday month! That’s right ladies and gents, I am a January babe.

When I was younger, I used to hate having a winter birthday. I thought summer birthdays were much more exciting. You had nicer weather, pool parties were always a hit, plus a birthday trip to the beach always sounded like a dream.

As I grew older, though, I realized January birthdays weren’t actually that bad. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still find summer birthdays to be very cool, but I have much love for my winter birthday now.

Though I couldn’t come up with a huge list, (I’ve only had 20 birthdays so I’m sure I have much more to experience), I did come up with a few reasons why January birthdays aren’t too shabby.

1. *Spongebob Voice* We are number one!

Just like Smitty Werben Man Jensen from Spongebob, we’re number one, baby! We literally get to start our new year by celebrating ourselves. That’s probably egotistical of me to say, but 2016 was rough. Let us January babes treat ourselves. I mean, you can treat yourself too. For all you Parks & Rec fans, you know it’s “Treat Yo Self 2017”.

2. In the words of Madonna, “Holiday, Celebrate!”

Once New Year’s eve and day passes, everyone has those “The holidays are over,” blues. Not us January babes, though. We get to keep on celebrating. Ain’t no party like a January party ‘cause a January party don’t stop.

3. “Sweata Weatha."

If your wardrobe is 90% sweaters like mine, then guess what?! You get to celebrate your birthday in those sweaters! Well, at least one of them. Please do not try to wear them all at once. Anyway, you get to look cute and age a year in a sweater! I don’t know about you, but that excites me. Plus, you can ask for even more sweaters for your birthday. It’s a win, win.

4. Man, I love college.

Mainly, because my birthday falls during our winter break. If you’re also in college, it’s very likely you’ll get to celebrate your January birthday before heading back for the spring semester. Unless your January birthday falls on the day before classes like mine does this year. Don’t worry, I’m still pumped.

5. A magical place, with magical charm…

Indoors! Yes, I know I talked about pool parties and beach trips, but you can have good times inside too. You can go to the movies, out to eat, bowling, the arcade, or even to a concert. Just like a summer birthday, the possibilities of ways to celebrate your January birthday are endless. I mean, last year I celebrated my birthday in an arcade with my friends. I spent all my coins on the claw machine and nabbed six stuffed animals. It was magical.

6. You’re the grandma friend.

Or the grandpa friend. If your birthday is in January, there’s a chance that you might be the oldest one in your friend group. This may entail jokes about how you’re so old and how you might start referring to your peers as “youths”. However, if you’re like me and feel that deep down you’re a grumpy old man, these are merely compliments. Plus, there’s also the possibility of you being the first one to turn 21, so cheers, my dude.

If you’re a January babe, I hope you have the happiest of birthdays. If you’re not a January babe, I still wish you the same! I hope you look forward to your birthday with excitement and know that there’s greatness to come out of it even if you don’t believe so. May our birthdays, and truly this entire year, bring forth positivity and lots of cake!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
