10 Reasons Why The Disney Spirit Should Be Alive In Every College Student

"We are made of spirit, mind, soul, and a little pixie dust."

Disney

"Disney is for kids." Yes, when we were all younger, most kids watched Disney Channel, listened to Disney songs and maybe even went to Disneyland. As a child, I was involved in anything Disney related, but as I grew up I took all of the lessons and song lyrics I learned with me, as well.

With all of the stress, debt, and issues that college students face within their academic years, I believe Disney should still be alive within college students. Then again, as Walt Disney said, "Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever."

1. Disney quotes are SO inspirational

Not only are Disney quotes inspirational, but many of them will inspire you towards success and determination. Quotes almost act as an outer voice telling you to do something, or in other words, leading you to the right path. Quotes are supposed to make you think. All Disney quotes are positive and make you realize the good times in life, and if things aren't the best right now, they will eventually get better. In accordance with college students, quotes can help you push through that one hell week you have coming up.

Examples:

"Your identity is your most valuable possession. Protect it." — Elastigirl ("The Incredibles")

"Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it." — Rafiki ("The Lion King")

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." — The Emperor ("Mulan")

2. Disney channel movies have lessons within them

Giphy

Every movie has a lesson attached to it. Disney movies always have positive lessons, that children will learn at some point throughout their lives. From Disney original movies to Disney channel movies, there is always a moral to the story. Being reminded of these lessons as you are older makes you realize the important things in life. Disney movies overall have a tendency to be fun, entertaining, and inspiring, all at once.

Examples:

In today's society, we are all guilty of judging too quick and we have to learn how to not be too quick to base an opinion on someone or something. In "Beauty and the Beast," Belle took time to get to know the beast and ended up falling in love with his soul. The lesson is true beauty is found not in how one looks, but in how one treats others. ("Beauty and The Beast")

Sometimes people need to realize that it's not always about where you come from, but more about where you belong. In "Lilo and Stitch," Stitch becomes a part of Lilo and Nani's family very quickly, even though he is only there for a few days. Lilo never gives up on him, even when most people would have. A family isn't defined by blood, but by love and acceptance. Sometimes, the bonds we make are just as strong. ("Lilo and Stitch")

Friends are an important part of life. In "High School Musical," the characters are constantly surrounded with their friends, as an incredible support system. You have to realize your friends are here to lean on. Despite the callback being the same time as the game and the decathlon, Troy and his friends worked together to make it all work out. Dreams have no limitation, and your friends are there for you every time. We're all in this together. ("High School Musical")

3. Disney preaches optimism, which is important

Giphy

As you get older and older, reality becomes more surreal. College students will typically become more stressed, resulting in a need for optimism and good feelings. You have to remind yourself that even if there are setbacks, you may find your greatest breakthrough when times seem the toughest.

Examples:

In the movie "Camp Rock," Mitchie had no idea what she was capable of doing the whole summer she was at Camp Rock. In the beginning, she was very shy and didn't feel like she belonged until everyone saw her potential and she began to break free and see for herself what she really could do. ("Camp Rock")

In the movie "Lemonade Mouth," none of the characters are afraid to express who they are. Although it takes a while to build up the story, the characters do struggle to find a ground and express themselves in a society that convinces them their voices don't matter. The way in which these characters grow, you realize the importance of self-expression. ("Lemonade Mouth")

In the movie "Jump In!", the main character, Izzy, is okay with being different from his peers, following his passion in life, and he stands up for what he believes in. Although the storyline does allude to serious issues like family financial troubles and the recent death of a parent, Izzy triumphs through. (Jump In!)

4. Disney songs are motivational

Giphy

When more things continue piling onto each other, you will need some motivation to push through. Music is always a great source of inspiration and motivation, but Disney songs in general, always seem to try and speak to you. Listening to certain songs can pump you up and push you in the right direction.

Examples:

"This Is Me" from "Camp Rock": This song inspires people to be more confident in themselves and too not pretend to be someone else. "Gonna let the light shine on me" shows that the character isn't afraid of being in the spotlight, the same way you should feel. A little spotlight is always nice.

"The Climb" from "The Hannah Montana Movie": This song inspires people to self-expression pushing when things bad. It reminds people that life is a climb, but the more important thing is the view is great. "There's always gonna be another mountain always gonna wanna make it move" shows that when setbacks occur, just move past them because things will get better.

"How Far I'll Go" from "Moana": This song inspires people, scared of the idea of adventure, of not knowing what lies in store. It exerts excitement to meet that challenge anyway. "If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me, one day I'll know if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go" shows that you must believe in yourself when embarking on a new adventure.

5. Disney songs are perfect for milestones

When that time comes around and you are moving on to a new chapter of your life or graduating, or you just got that dream job you've always been wanting, Disney songs are actually very relatable. Whether you want to cry your eyes out because you and your friends are parting ways, or you want to jump for joy because everything is going the way you wanted it too, there are many songs from Disney Channel and Disney movies that can apply.

Examples:

"I'll Always Remember You" by Hannah Montana: This song is perfect for graduation time, when you are thanking your friends for all of the memories you have made, or simply for when you want to reminisce on those special moments. "The times that we had, I'll keep like a photograph."

"Make A Wave" by Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato: This song is perfect for when you have just made an impact and feel like you are affecting others positively. "Just a pebble in the water, can set the sea in motion."

"Work This Out" from "High School Musical 2": This song is perfect for when you are trying to accomplish something and you feel like you need a little motivation. "If we work, work there'll be no doubt."

6. Disney movies are great for those hopeless romantics

Giphy

In "High School Musical," Troy and Gabriella fall in love with each other throughout the movie, and they learn to resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to "stick to the status quo." In "Camp Rock," Shane, a popular teen idol, overhears Mitchie singing and sets out to find who the talented voice belongs to. After finding out that she is actually a camp kitchen worker with a fear of being heard, he still falls in love with her. In "Starstruck," Jessica agrees to join her older sister to find the famous pop star, Christopher Wilde, and he eventually ends up hitting her in the head while opening a door. The two then fall in love, despite how Christopher is a famous pop star and doesn't really know how to be normal. Disney seems to put the magic in romance. Although many of the scenarios may be unrealistic, they liven up your imagination and make you hope you find that perfect someone one day. Disney movies always have a perfect ending, and sometimes we need to be reminded that everything will work out at the end.

7. Disney Channel shows are actually funny

Giphy

When you were younger watching Disney Channel shows, maybe you didn't find anything funny. You heard the audience laughter in the background, but now you can find yourself laughing along with the laughter. From corny jokes to relatable moments, rewatching these shows will remind you of your childhood. Whether it was "You nasty!" from "That's So Raven" or Esteban from "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" saying "Esteban Julio Ricardo Montoya De La Rosa Ramirez" every time he wanted to prove somebody right, moments like these you may find yourself smiling at your screen.

8. Disney princesses are iconic

Giphy

There are honestly so many princesses, from the original Cinderella to one of the most recent, Moana, they all have an important moral to their story. Disney princesses have a special place in every woman's heart, probably because we grew up with them and went to bed wearing princess pajamas as I did. Personally, Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" was my favorite Disney princess because she didn't judge a book by its cover when she ended up falling in love with the beast. Also, Belle was different from the rest of her town, which made her unique. Oh, and who doesn't love the classic song of "Beauty and the Beast," it's a tale as old as time! Overall, every college student has a favorite princess.

9. The "High School Musical" series will always be the best

Giphy

In my opinion, the "High School Musical" series ("HSM") is the best thing Disney Channel has ever aired. From the lessons you learn throughout the movies to the lyrics you never forget and can't help but sing along with, "HSM" will never get old. Despite differences between friends, "HSM" seems to unite friends as they belt out the intense "Bet On It" or the heartbreaking "Gotta Go My Own Way." Although "HSM" may give very unrealistic expectations about high school, you can't help but smile because of the good feelings it makes you feel. "Once a wildcat, always a wildcat."

10. Who doesn't love a good throwback here and there?

Giphy

Throwbacks are probably the best thing to listen and watch too when you're hanging out with friends. Do you remember whenever you saw those kids jumping around in that weird Disney void with film reels that things were about to get real? Ultimately, reminiscing is always a good thing, especially when you're in college and need a break from, well, life.

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer. And if you haven't already guessed, it's beer. There are few things I take more seriously than my beer, in order are: sports... and beer. Here are my favorite summer brews:

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

5873
Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

You cannot beat the beach. Believe it or not (which many people may not), New England has a long and beautiful coastline. Most of my high school summers were spent sitting on the Wall at Hampton Beach, getting sunburnt and eating Acai bowls from The Secret Spot. The Wall was the place to be both during the day and at night. We begin our days there with a KB's bagel and coffee, and end them with pizza and ice cream. It’s not a New England summer without that 4 p.m. text from someone, “Who wants to meet at the Wall tonight?” Nighttime is for Tripoli’s Pizza, the sound of waves, and wishes on shooting stars. Wednesday nights are especially important, as those are the nights that Hampton Beach sets off the weekly firework display.
