Sister. She's your best friend and your biggest annoyance. She's your go-to gal and also the one you just want to get away from. She's your role model, yet the one person you don't want to be anything like. If you were as lucky as I am to have a sister you know what I'm talking about. Whether she is older or younger than you, your relationship with your sister is none like any other. If you want to admit it or not, she's always going to be the one who will be there for you, no matter how many toys, clothes, hair brushes, and cosmetics you fought over. As you grow up, you start to realize the importance of the relationship you have with your sister and why you should never take it for granted. Friends may come and go, yet your sister will always be there. She's been there from the beginning and she will be there until the end. All the ups and downs of life, your sister has been there through it all.
Your sister is the first girl you ever talked to about anything. She was the one you always ran to tell your deepest secrets, talk about love, boys, your future, your fears and also your dreams. Your mom most likely paired you in matching outfits and took thousands of pictures of you as you faked your happiness and all you wanted to do was attack the other and rip off the ridiculous pink and frilly outfit. However, I can almost promise you that through the scrapbooks and old Polaroid photos, there is a genuine photo in there somewhere. The one where your holding each other and laughing, as you drip your ice cream cones down your legs. Your sister is always there and always will be.
No matter the relationship, older, younger, or even the same age, having a sister is indescribable, but here are a few reasons as to wHy you'll always cherish your relationship with her.
She always has better clothes.
No matter what, your sister's clothes are always better than your own, and you look better in them than she does. You plan to give them back, and maybe you eventually will.
No matter the age, you always had a playmate.
Whether she was dressing you up like her baby doll, or in my case Toto so she could be Dorothy, no matter what you had someone to play with at all times.
Sleeping in each other's bed was better than sleeping alone.
I'm not even talking about because there was a monster under your bed, or there was a loud rainstorm. No, sleeping in bed with your sister was always more fun. Pretzel bent together and all.
You've seen each other through all the "phases."
Punk rock, graphic tee's, and all! She was there to smack you back into reality and wipe the three inches of eyeliner off your eyelids.
You know her like the back of your hand.
The level of comfort you have with one another ranges from taking baths together as you were little to showing each other weird marks on your butt when you're in your twenties.
She's the only one who will truly understand the true level of craziness that is your family.
From the crazy family Christmas dinners to reminding each other to call Grandma on her birthday or you'll lose favorite grandchild status. Your sister is the only one who truly gets it!
You have "the look" that each one of you knows what it means.
"Let's get ice cream!" "Shut up, mom is coming!" "You better not say anything about that!" "Your chewing is obnoxious!" "Go make the popcorn! I'll start the movie" Just one look and you two swap a thousand words.
You've always got each other's back.
Like the time you let her in through the window so she wouldn't get caught for sneaking out after curfew.
Your secrets are her secrets.
You'll never repeat hers and she'll never repeat yours. Your lips are locked and sealed!
Your sister's advice is the best you'll ever get.
Especially if she's older than you, she's lived it. You listen to her like your life depended on it, cause sometimes it very well might!
Your uniqueness is what makes your relationship so special.
Although your interests are most similar to those of your friends, the differences between you and your sister only deepens your friendship. You lose friendships over fights and difference, but those things only make you love your sister more.
I truly do not know what I'd do without my sister. I will always cherish our memories of growing up together. We are now miles and miles, even time zones apart from each other, but she'll always be my sisters and I wouldn't trade our relationship for anything else in the world!
