Reasons Why Boys Today Will Never Comprehend Chivalry

And yes, girls — it's partly our fault

Everyone's seen the movies — you know, the ones where the boy puts everything on the line to win the heart of the one he adores? Girls today look at those movies with jealousy and a bit of curiosity. What has changed in boys that has made them the complete opposites of the knights in shining armor on the big silver screen? Well ladies, I am here to tell you.

1. We have lost our ability to communicate.

In today's day and age, we are obsessed with our phones. It has become both easy and accessible to send a quick text, snapchat, or DM rather than picking up the phone to call someone or speaking to them in person. This has obviously altered the way we communicate with each other. The idea of going out and having an hour long conversation with someone you barely know is not appealing to most.

2. Woman have allowed men to put in little to no effort.

Come on, girls. You all know what I'm talking about. When you are interested in someone, you begin to let the things they do wrong slide, in exchange for a little bit of attention. This attention isn't much, though. Maybe he's sending you a few texts a day that make you smile — so that's enough, right? I say that it's not enough. When women become complacent and let men get away by putting in the bare minimum of effort, things like dates, flowers and chocolates become non-existent due to the fact that men now think a "wyd" text will suffice.

3. We live in a hook-up culture.

When's the last time you have truly thought that a guy's intentions were 100 percent pure? For me, I could only name about three or four instances in my life where I really thought someone wanted to get to know me for the right reasons. Most people today are just looking for a quick and easy hookup; nothing more, nothing less. "No strings attached" is somehow more appealing to men than having someone whom you care about and want to spend quality time with. This, I will never understand.

4. Humans fear rejection.

Asking someone out is flat-out scary. As a girl, we really don't think about the struggles of having to do everything first. Texting, dates, numbers... of course boys are just supposed to make the first move! We don't understand how hard it may be to get the courage up to do these things. As less and less people are going on dates and meeting the old-fashioned way, less boys are putting themselves out there. This creates a domino effect on chivalry as a whole.

Lastly, I do not have another reason supporting the evidence, but something that is a counterargument to all the reasons I just gave you.

5. Maybe, just maybe, chivalry is still alive... and you are looking in all the wrong places.

Where do you look when you think of the perfect boyfriend? Most of us girls think that any handsome and athletic frat boy will be a great fit. This is where we are going wrong. Not to speak for that entire type, but come on. We all know that boy is not going to treat you right or give you what you deserve. If you think you can change him, you're wrong. He will not act chivalrous to you unless it is in his moral character to do so, and that cannot be forced nor taught. So maybe next time, try the boy who skips a night out to babysit his sisters or goes to bible study; you never know what you may find.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
