Laugh for as long as you live.

10 Reasons To Smile

What is the reason behind your smile?

When you hold hands with your significant other? When you win free tickets to your favorite concert? Or when you finally see your dog after a long day of being away from home?

Happiness shouldn't be determined by the amount of money one has or how many cars one owns, but rather by the moments you share with the ones you love. And yes, I get that many of us would rather cry in a Ferrari than on a bike, but have you actually took a moment and thought about the moments that make you or can make you smile? Especially in those times where you're feeling like everything in your life is falling apart. There are a billion reasons to smile. Smile because...

1. Because you're alive.

You're breathing. It can't get any better than that. Be thankful. If you're feeling like you don't matter or thinking to yourself what is the point of living; just know that you're worth it. You have a purpose in life regardless of what anyone says or how you feel at the moment. God put you on this earth for a reason. Please don't give up.

2. Because you did it.

You did it. Do you ever have those moments where you stop and remember how far you've come in life? You were probably struggling to get by a year ago or it felt like your life was falling apart, and you felt as if you were stuck. But look at you now. You overcame that obstacle. Those days when you feel stuck again, know that if you were able to continue and go further with whatever you had or whatever you may have been going through then, you are able to do it now. Keep going.

3. Because God is good.

God is good all the time. All the time God is good.

4. Because you have a roof over your head.

Smile because you have what you have. Don't complain because Bob has a better car than you or because Sally has a pool. There are people who wish they had what you have. I'm not talking about that iPhone in your pocket or that car parked outside your house, but rather a home or even just a bed. Smile because you're blessed.

5. Because you are you.

There is not another person like you. You are unique and perfect the way you are. I preach about self love and body positivity all the time. That's because it took me such a long time to love myself, and I don't want that to happen to other girls. Therefore, smile because you are you.

6. Because cheesecake is amazing.

You all are probably thinking, "How did she go from being all deep and inspirational to cheesecake?" Cheesecake is amazing and should be talked about. Enough said.

7. Because makeup exists and makes you look 10 times hotter than you already are.

You know that smile/smirk you give yourself in the mirror when you're finished with that masterpiece? Like, "Yes, I'm cute. My eyeliner is poppin', and my eyebrows are amazing!" Keep it like that when you take off the makeup as well. You're cute either way.

8. Because your friend waits for you to get in your house when he/she drops you off.

Smile because they care about you. If you do this, bless your soul. I get paranoid a lot and feel safer my friends wait until I safely get in my house therefore I love you. So smile because they don't want you to die on your way to your house even if it's like literally right there.

9. Because your mom continues to text you asking you where you are and when you're coming home.

Shoutout to my Hispanic people (and others), but mainly Hispanics because you all know what I'm talking about. Those "Cuando vienes?" or "Ya te mandas sola?" or "Donde fregados estas?" type of texts. Smile because you get that message, or messages, from your mom. She cares about you. Cherish her and those annoying texts because you're not going to have her forever, and you're going to miss little things like these.

10. Because why not?

Do it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
