We've all seen opinion articles and online quizzes bringing up the concept of different "types" of girls and which "type" is the best. While the "best type" would seem subjective to each individual (and it is!), opinion pieces have a chosen "type" to zone in on and explain why this specific type is the best wife material, best girlfriend material, best friend material, and so on. Online quizzes make you answer vague to specific questions, and at the end, you're given your most compatible type. Here's just one quiz that, once you submit eight of your answers, lets you know which type of girl (country, nerdy, etc.) is "right" for you.
I don't see the harm in taking silly quizzes like these for fun. They weren't made for you to change your life, or tell you you're with a "wrong" type of girl, and they definitely aren't something you should take seriously. What I do see harm in, though, is articles written about the best types of girl and the worst types, and quizzes that tell you you're right or wrong.
Do be with a tomboy.
Don't be with a girl who has had sex/enjoys sex/is a "slut."
There is no universal best type of girl. The best type of girl is actually any type of girl. So you like getting dirty and playing sports? You're awesome. Or maybe you like getting dressed up and going to parties? Go you! Do you read a lot of books? Kudos. Do you not like to read books? That's OK too. You're still amazing. You're not the "wrong" type of girl. There's no such thing.
Saying that a specific label of a girl is the best "wife" material is gross. That's not to say we should be embarrassed about liking girls with whom we have a lot in common. If you're a boy or girl who is attracted to girls who like to mud wrestle, or fish, or go camping, that's cool too. We like the people we like. But it's not cool to say one type of girl is better than another type of girl. Don't look down on other people for who they like, and don't look down on girls for not fitting your own creepy standards. If you don't like party girls, don't date a party girl. It's actually that easy!
So the next time you feel the need to explain why your favorite "type" of girl is the best "type" of girl, think: First, don't put girls in categories. Some girls like to get dirty AND read Jane Austen. It's almost as if we're complex human beings. Crazy thought, right? Girls aren't soup cans. Stop labeling them for your benefit. And second, bite your tongue. You're allowed to think tomboys are the best. But no one else really cares. Keep your labels in your head, date whom you want, and mind your own business.
And don't forget. All girls are actually the freaking best.
