The Real Life Of "Adulting"

Adulting: (N): Mimicking what we see real adults doing.

As I was cleaning my bathroom today I stuck the brush in the toilet to clean and it snapped in half. I feel as though it was a metaphorical representation of how my adulthood is going. I feel like after reading that first sentence by dad is really proud that I am cleaning my own bathroom and that I didn’t hire a cleaning crew. Someday dad, don’t you worry, hint, wink, cough, haa.

Adulting is that stage in our lives we all begin around our early twenties. It is that first step into the real life. We love our parents and their home is all we know, but it is good for us to go out and experience life on our own. There are many days you get so stressed out and upset that you just want to run back home and cry to your mom and dad, which it's totally acceptable we are just beginning to learn how to grow up so the need to pout and cry to your parents is just a part of learning the adulthood lifestyle.

While learning how to adult I have run into some interesting obstacles and I am pretty sure most twenty-something-year-olds can relate to this as well.

1. How many more miles can I go until my gas tank is REALLY empty?

I hate filling up my gas tank. I avoid it as much as I can I have it down to a science with how many miles I can go until I am actually in trouble. I am aware that it isn’t the greatest thing to do to a car, but hey I am young I still have a lot to learn, right?

2. Grocery shopping.

I now understand why my mother avoids the grocery store. It is an annoying task that just has to be done so I don’t starve to death.

3. "I got this".

I couldn’t tell you how many times I actually say this and then realize that I do not “got this”. Whether it is trying to lift a heavy object, figuring out my priorities or even fighting the urge to buy those super cute high-heeled booties. I have realized that I am young with a lot still left to learn about life and that it is okay not to always have everything figured out.

4. Balancing.

Time management and balancing my life out is something really hard to do. I never thought that having a social life would be hard for me to keep up with. I may not always hangout with my friends or talk to you as much as I should and I am sorry I am just trying to balance my life out. I guess growing up isn’t as much fun as it sounded to us about five years ago, haha!

5. Relaxing.

What is that?

Everything you may be going through right now is just a step in your life that is shaping you for the future. Good, or bad you’re adulating for a reason and growing up is just a part of life. Remember your family always has your back and it is never lame to call up your mom or dad sad no matter what your age is. Honestly, I highly recommend calling them after a bad day. I am just starting my life and I am highly aware of the fact that I have a lot left to learn. That is what we do our entire life, we live and we learn. Sometimes it is good to take a step back and smile and be grateful for everything you do have and not complain about what you don’t have. This is just the first chapter to the rest of your life. Embrace your “adulting” stage I promise you it is much more fun than the real “adulthood” we will all have someday.

XOXO,

M

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
