My sweet father just so happens to own a small men's retail store in my hometown of Guntersville, Alabama. I have had the opportunity to work there for most of my life and as a result, have noticed that people react certain ways when they hear that you are the boss's child.

1. "I bet the boss pays you really well."

Ummm, while I now do get paid pretty well for a part-time job that has not always been the case. Actually, because I am family when I first started working I didn't even get paid minimum wage because all those laws don't count when it's your kids. The only reason I make the amount I do now is because I have worked my butt off and gone above beyond what is expected of me, thank you very much.

2. "I bet you can't wait to take over when you get older."

Nope. No. No way. I have absolutely no interest in taking over this business whatsoever. Just because I just told you I am a business major does not mean that I want to do this for the rest of my life. I don't even want to do this right now but money is money right?

3. "That's not a real job."

It actually is. You wouldn't say that to my coworker standing right beside me, would you? Exactly, you wouldn't. Just because my dad is my boss doesn't make this any less of a "real" job.

4. "I bet you can get away with murder in here."

In all reality, I have to be 10x better at my job than my coworkers. When they mess up they get a warning while at work and that's the end of it...I get to go home with the boss and hear about it all over again... I can't get away with anything.

5. "Why don't you just go ahead and give me that 50% off?"

How about I don't do that? I don't own this store my dad does; I have no more authority than any other employee here. I know you think it's hilarious but it's actually the 12th time I've heard that today and I'm really tired so please stop.

6. "Here put this toward your new car fund."

While it is actually true that buying from a small business allows us to live our daily lives, I just feel like it's very rude to say things like that. And actually, that three dollars you just spent on a sticker isn't even going to help me be able to buy a piece of gum.

7. "You're a rich girl, huh."

Also heard as "I bet you live in a mansion" and "what kind of car did your daddy buy you?" First of all, the financial status of my family is none of your business. Second, no my family is nowhere near rich. And third, my daddy (and myself) bought me a Camry.

My parents have worked extremely hard their entire lives to give us all that we have now and because of their hard work and the fact that they are really good with their money I have never had to experience not having what I need. And honey, none of that had to do with you.

But at the end of the day, I don't really care what other people say. I have been truly blessed by our little store, and I am so lucky to know that I'll have a job and a place to call home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
