Some of us don't have cellular data to play.
Some of us didn't get caught up in the nostalgia.
Some of us just don't want to play.
Whatever the reason may be, despite the media and your friends' obsessions with Pokémon Go, there remains a rare bread of people who have not yet joined the game - I happen to be one of them. I also happen to be someone who cannot comprehend the Pokémon hype and made a list of 10 activities I would rather do instead of chase imaginary creatures around my town.
1. Take a Walk in the Woods
Okay, so apparently Pokémon Go players "get exercise" and may even take a hike through a few trees. However, I am talking about an adventure minus my cellphone and plus meeting real animals.
2. Read a Book
Both Harry Potter and Pokémon Go are imaginary worlds. The only difference - one is actually really interesting.
3. Eat Ice Cream
If I had a scoop of ice cream for every time I saw a mention of Pokémon, I would be 20 pounds heavier and 200% happier. Bring on the vanilla cones with rainbow sprinkles, please!
4. Sleep
My friends stay awake until 3:00 am to "catch em all"! The only thing I want to catch are some "zzz's".
5. Save Gas
Dear Pokémon Go players,
How are you funding this? Posts and status updates about college-aged folks driving around town "catching em all" constantly fill my newsfeed - HOW? Aren't you like every other college student - broke, begging for gas money, praying your car doesn't fall apart?
I think I'll save all $2 I made working this summer to pay my student debt.
Sincerely, A Confused College Student
6. Pet a Cat
Speaking of real animals, you can hook me up with a friendly cat anytime, and I will absolutely avoid downloading Pokémon Go if it means quality cat time.
7. Waterski
If I am not playing Pokémon Go, I might as well be making dreams come true (especially since I have heard that those who dream of catching Dragonite remain dreamers for many weeks).
8. Talk with Donald Trump
I am not totally sure about this one because I think both Pokémon and chatting with Trump would be an equal waste of time.
9. Unplug a toilet with my hand
Honestly, I think cleaning the bathroom is a more worthwhile endeavor for my hands than holding a phone aka more debt, because no one really has a large enough data plan to fuel a Pokémon addiction.
10. Live My (Real) Life
I live my life. I breathe my breaths. I don't play Pokémon Go.
To be fair, I can understand why you would want to play the interactive version of your childhood. However, for someone like me, cut off from 90's trends and the internet for over half of my life, the nostalgia just can't "catch em(ily)".
