Prom is arguably the capstone to everyone's High School career. It is a time to come together, whether with your crush or some of your real friends. Nonetheless, it is the most unforgettable experience of everyone's life, especially mine. And I regret nothing about it. See, at first, I told myself that it was stupid and not worth the 50 bucks and change. I had spent the few weeks leading up to the event talking myself out of it. All of my friends were going and when they asked me, I shrugged it off as if it was the least of my worries. The truth was... I had really wanted to go.
The school was covered with posters from candidates running for Prom King and Queen. Everyone seemed to be in a celebratory mood as they anxiously waited for the day and all the possibilities the night had in store. During 7th period each day, the stupid announcement would come on, bragging and boasting about the importance of missing prom. Why couldn't it just be free, I wondered to myself. It's the least they could do. After all, we had to pay for terrible school lunches for the past 4 plus years. I had to go. I needed to go. How would I come up with the money to purchase my ticket and buy a nice suit? I wondered about this on multiple occasions. To solve that problem, a buddy of mine had loaned me enough money to purchase my prom ticket and I decided that I didn't need a suit!
The day had finally arrived. I picked out my best Sunday attire that I could find and patiently waited for my ride to get here. First stop, pictures. We all met up at another friend's house whose front yard was picturesque enough for all of us to congeal and take a few shots. After our photoshoot we had decided on an Italian restaurant for dinner. After all, a night like this one couldn't go down on an empty stomach.
After dinner those who chose the limo option piled into a white stretch limo, I reckon they had a blast. For me, I rode with my friend Marcello. Prom started off very quiet.
When arriving at the venue, everyone was dressed up in their nicest attire and gleaming smiles. All of the ladies were looking scrumptious in their skin tight dresses. The gentleman resembled that of James Bond. I quickly scanned the low lit room for any familiar face. The couples obviously gravitated towards their significant other. The single folks like myself, searched the room for potential opportunities to steal a dance. With no luck, I decided to hit the floor by myself. As weird as that sounds, it actually wasn't a bad idea. See, by doing that, I indirectly motivated everyone else to start moving their ligaments. A few girls came beside be and started doing some weird rave mixed with some type of BS. It didn't really matter though, they were cute, and it was prom night.
In essence, Prom 2012 was a night to remember, I am glad that I chose to go last minute. Spending time with these individuals who I probably would never see again was a very sensitive time and one that I will never forget. As I danced and raved, I couldn't help but reminisce about all the good times we’ve had throughout high school. I definitely do not regret a thing about my senior prom.
