By now, I am sure that almost every college student has heard of Snapchat: the social app that allows one to send photos and videos to his or her friends for a desired amount of time. Despite the potential issues that could arise with the photo messaging app, it is a great way to keep in touch with friends near and far.
Ohio University Graduates, Max Yankee and Seth Miller, decided to take this idea a little further with the creation of the app "RapChat." In all honesty, the name alone gives you a pretty good idea of what the application offers. Like Snapchat, you can send media to your friends, but these recordings are accompanied by a beat and your own creative lyrics.
With rap having a long history of competitiveness, this ideology spills over into the app as well. Despite the casual nature of it, it is easy to see how one can get lost in trying to one-up their best friend in a rap battle.
Although the app has been around since the summer, it has recently gotten a little bit of traction in the Charlottesville/UVA area, and I do believe it is worth a quick download and trial-run. The increased traffic with the app has also opened the door for more producers to sign-on, allowing for a more diverse collection of beats to freestyle over.
Take a look at their promo video and give the app a chance (only if you have an iPhone, that is).
