Tomi Lahren And The "Liberal Elite"

Here are my final thoughts.

Whether or not you actually watched the Golden Globes, there's no way you've been able to get through the week without hearing about or seeing videos of actress Meryl Streep. That would be because during her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. Demille Lifetime Achievement Award, she threw some major shade at President-Elect Donald Trump.

In the small chance that you haven't seen it, let me fill you in. During Meryl Streep's acceptance speech for her Lifetime Achievement Award, she called out President-Elect Donald Trump on the time he mockeda disabled reporter. The thing is, she did so in a classier way, without mentioning his name at all during the speech. She simply discussed the situation, and how terrible of a thing it is for anyone to do.

And the majority of people let it go. Whether or not you like Trump, whether or not you agree that was what he was doing, no one can deny that Meryl addressed it in the best way possible without mentioning him. Well, one person can.

No doubt you've heard of Facebook sensation Tomi Lahren. She is a conservative political commentator, the current host of her own eponymous program on The Blaze, and is most famous for her final thoughts segment. This is where she takes on a popular topic or event from the week and just rants about it for as long as her heart desires. These rants usually involve her calling people crybabies, special snowflakes, etc etc.

In short, Tomi Lahren is a well paid bully who often talks down either to or about anyone who she doesn't agree with. This has included everyone from Colin Kaepernick to President Barack Obama. Her most recent target, naturally, was Meryl Streep.

You see, Tomi was and still is a hardcore Donald Trump supporter. And in true fashion, she is quick to call anyone who is unhappy with the new President-Elect a crybaby and to tell them to get over both it and themselves. She dedicated her mostrecent Final Thoughts segment to bashing Streep. She claims that Meryl and the rest of the "Hollywood liberal elite" are too out of touch with the rest of the country—the hardworking Americans who elected Trump.

I have my own final thoughts on this. One of Tomi's favorite phrases is "liberal elite." This describes anyone who leans a bit more towards the left. In Tomi's generalizations, the only liberals who exist are the ones who can afford it. Hollywood stars, singers, wealthy politicians, etc etc. She claims that every middle/working-class American thinks like she does—she often lumps herself in with the rest of the country.

My family has never had the most money. We've been on Foodstamps before, and I'm not afraid to admit it. By all accounts I am a working class, or lower middle class individual. And I am a staunch liberal. I was an anti-Trumper, and a Bernie-or-bust supporter. I am the complete opposite of what anyone would consider "elite" and yet that is where Tomi has placed me.

You can be hardworking, and still need help from other people. You can be part of the lower class, working class, lower middle class with not much to your name and still be willing to give it away for or to someone else. My point is, you can be a liberal even if you can't financially afford it. Not everyone who is wealthy is a liberal, and not everyone who is middle class or lower is conservative.

And I can't help but laugh as Tomi gets so angry and so upset over Meryl Streep talking about Donald Trump, because I have to reiterate she never mentioned his name. She was calm and collected, and yet Tomi gets so angry. For someone who so often calls people crybabies and tells them to "get over it," she sure can't seem to. She'll bully and name-call people who have differing opinions from her own, just as our new president does. Final thoughts? Tomi needs to get some thicker skin.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
