The Race for 2016 is well on it's way. It seems like everyday I turn on the news only to see the list of candidates grow longer and longer. I don't think I've ever seen a presidential election with so much chaos. Just like every election, the candidates, the media, and voting citizens like you have shown just how kind we can be to one another.
It's a constant battle. Democrat vs. Republican, Clinton vs. Trump, Clinton vs. Bush, Trump vs. Bush, Trump vs. the world, you get the idea. All I see is bickering and insults being thrown back and forth. It's ridiculous. But this article isn't about how bad the candidates are behaving. No, this article is about you.
Growing up, I was never really into politics and it still isn't my favorite topic. However, I pay more attention to it now that I'm a voter. My parents always taught me that the three topics that should not be discussed with others (because they are sensitive issues) are Politics, Religion, and Social Issues. Unfortunately, we are a generation that has grown up on social media. We feel the need to share every intelligent (and unintelligent) thought that crosses our mind with the rest of the world. So when we share a news article about how, "Donald Trump is Racist," or how, "Hilary Clinton is a Liar," we have opened up our feeds to comments from people who strongly disagree.
I have seen Facebook debate after Facebook debate end with friends calling each other terrible names (I'm pretty sure it ended some friendships). I've seen many Tweets cause Twitter Wars and after all of this, I just have to ask myself why?
The great thing about this country is we can all have different views and opinions on everything. And do you know what the best part is? Everyone is right. Now if your opinion is that you should be allowed to rob a bank without being charged, well then you are wrong. However, if you believe that Hilary Clinton should be president, you are right. If you think Jeb Bush should be president, you are also right. If you think Donald Trump should be president, you are wrong. I'm just kidding, that's your opinion and even if I don't agree, that doesn't make me more right that you. Do you see how this works?
This election has become a little chaotic with so many candidates, and yes, some of them are making complete idiots of themselves, but don't do the same thing to yourself. Your opinion is not the only opinion and your opinion is not fact. Remember when you were little and people told you, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? Well, now is the time to use this. If you don't agree with what your friend's political or social views are, just scroll past it. We have to all agree to disagree. We are all intellectual beings who see the world differently and that's a beautiful thing. So let's all love each other and don't let an election ruin your relationships with others.
