10 Quotes You Need To Hear

No matter what the situation is that we are dealing with, sometimes we try and look to an outside source. Whether it be that friend who’s not really in the friend group or maybe if you’re close enough with your parents. One thing we never really look to on the other hand, are quotes. Quotes can either hit home or just become as meaningless as that homework assignment you skipped because you just didn’t feel like doing it. Either way, sometimes we need them as some sort of guidance. Take in what these great quotes have to offer, as they might mean something much deeper than what’s written on your computer or phone screen.

"If you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful."

This is not only one of my favorites, but I apply it to everything. We’ve all had those “I can’t do it” moments. It almost feels so awful you just want to throw in the towel and stop trying. Before you do that, think about how badly you want it. How badly do you want to get an A. How badly do you want to lose those last ten pounds you’ve been working on. How badly you want that internship. If you feel it with every bone in your body, you’re not done trying. Just as we need air, you need that study session, that last set, or even that extracurricular activity to put on your resume.

"You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one."

If you’re one of those people that have trouble with change, I totally know how you feel. Yet, looking back on that situation and what the past is like, is not going to give you a good outcome. Think of it as one door closing while another door opens. That last door is shut for good, so you might as well walk through the other door and not look back. After some time, you’ll never even realize why you wanted to re-read that last chapter in the first place.

"Enjoy the little things."

Sometimes we get caught up in all the negativity and stress we have in our lives, we forget what really matters. Whether it be a simple smile or your coffee was made from the coffee gods just to your liking, enjoy it! There’s nothing like spending Sunday mornings being lazy with the family or laughing uncontrollably with your friends. Those things may be small, but a lot of small things equals a big thing.

"Clear eyes, Full hearts, Can’t lose."

Some may recognize this quote from the very popular TV series “Friday Night Lights.” Every time they would say this I would get goosebumps! It was impossible not to get inspired from the panthers chanting this until sweat came dripping off their forehead. This does not have to relate to sports though. When you have your heart set on something, do everything in your power to get it. This also can relate to priorities. If you don’t have your priorities in check, it might be hard to really focus on what you need to get done. So as the quote goes, clear your eyes of distractions, have a full heart of desire, and you will not lose.

"You have to believe in yourself when no one else does."

The mind is a very powerful thing, and when you have negative thoughts, it’ll burn through your body like rapid fire. Venus Williams is the genius behind this quote, and I can’t agree with her more. You shouldn’t depend on anyone else for happiness except for you. So when you have the naysayers, YOU need to believe in yourself and that’s all that matters. If you believe in yourself anything is possible.

"If you think about quitting, think about why you started."

Motivation at its finest. That spark inside you that lit up like the empire state building, that’s what should keep you going. Quitting is not an option.

"If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave."

Never settle for anything less of your expectations. If you are not happy with a situation or the people in your life, leave. Those people will either steer you in the wrong direction of where you need to go or just bring more negativity in your life. If you ever see yourself becoming different or not where you want to go, there is always an escape route.

"Sometimes the best way to be happy is to learn to let go of things you tried to hold onto that are no longer good for you."

Letting go is not easy for anyone, yet it is necessary. You may not realize it now, but letting go takes a lot of tension off your shoulders. It’s healthy to let go, especially if it will benefit you in the long run. Sometimes we need to focus on ourselves and do what’s best for us. Letting go of what’s holding you back will give you a breath of fresh air and is the first step to making yourself happy. Don’t think of all the good in the past, because the past isn’t now and now it isn’t good (Confused? Yeah me too). Just think to yourself, does this person make me as happy as they did before? Is it worth it?

"Never expect things to happen, because it's better to feel surprised than disappointed."

Living life unexpectedly isn't always a bad thing. Having expectations is overrated anyway. Putting a perfect picture in your head of how a night out is going to go or a first date can either end up ruining your night or being left with disappointment. So just live in the moment, be spontaneous!

"The ship is safest when it is in port, but that's not what ships were built for."

Going out of our comfort zones might be hard at first, but definitely worth it. You meet some of your closest friends when going out of your comfort zone. You are built for great things, so go out of your comfort zone and accomplish them!

Overall, you’re going to be OK. No matter what’s happening in your life now, you will be okay. Sometimes we all need to just take a deep breath and move on, but then other times we need a little extra help. Hopefully these quotes put you in a positive state of mind to get you through your day.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
