So you've gotten into UCF...

Congrats into joining the knight nation! Going into college can be scary and challenging but it is an experience that you'll carry with you for a lifetime. Just breathe and be ready to be informed!

A Little Insight About Dorming

There's A LOT of different types of dorms on campus, varying from typical dorm styles all the way to on-campus apartment living. At UCF, you either get a typical dorm-style room very close to everything on campus or you trade distance with luxury and live a little bit further out in apartment-style dorms. The Towers is a four-building apartment-style dorm located on the edge of campus that will be sure to keep your legs in shape while you head over to class.

Some Insight on Orlando

There are so many fun things to do in Orlando! For starters, Orlando is home to so many places to eat and go sightseeing. There's a popular saying here and it goes, "Orlando is an hour away from Orlando." Across town are all the theme parks like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World. The Student Government sells discounted tickets too! There's also a ton of things to do on International Drive, which has things like Madam Tussauds, bowling, golf, and City Walk.

Best Places to Eat on Campus

Campus is home to a lot of good food - aside from several Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts on/around campus, the Student Union is home to a lot of good foods. In the mood for a steak burger and shake? Head to Steak and Shake! My personal favorite place to eat on campus is Burger U, which is obviously a burger (and really good chicken) place with fries that are to die for. There's always cool music, a bar, and lots of space to hang out!

Jumping into the Bounce House

One of the greatest things about UCF is all the events offered on campus. The football games are literally to die for and you just feel so proud to be a knight (stream Kerncraft 400 in order to prep for the games). We also have free concerts and comedy k(nights) - last homecoming, Blackbear came and performed! Another amazing thing that's so great in UCF tradition is Spirit Splash, which is where everyone storms the reflection pond and jumps in the water to try and catch ducks, and these ducks end up selling for a lot on the internet!

Campus Weather

Saying that it gets hot on campus would be an understatement. In Orlando, there are days where the weather gets to feel like a hundred degrees outside. Surprisingly, you will eventually get used to the weather! Just always be ready to get rained on too, so keep an umbrella handy! I personally keep a thin rain jacket in my backpack just in case it rains or a classroom is too cold.

UCF, aka Under Construction Forever

Just like the rest of Orlando, there's always some sort of construction on campus. UCF is always renovating and building new things and adapting to the ever growing population on campus. Soon we're getting add-ons to the library and Student Union, so maybe a parking garage will be in our future.

Here's to the Next Four Years!

This shortlist isn't the complete guide to UCF - the school is just so immersive and massive that you'll end up learning a lot as you explore. One of my favorite parts about UCF is that there is so much to offer for so many people and so many different places to learn and hang out on campus. The knight nation is very excited to welcome you. Whenever you hear someone say "Go Knights!" be ready to respond with "Charge on!"

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
