I found a quote on Pinterest that pretty much sums up my life. Nana Hoffman said: "Before coffee, I'm a hot mess. After? I'm a wide awake hot mess. So there's that."
Nothing makes me feel more like a train wreck than struggling to get out of bed in the morning. Sometimes, not even coffee can do the trick.
So, this morning, like most mornings, I hit snooze one too many times and debated calling in to work. I just could not find the motivation to get out of bed. However, I did my daily Facebook scrolling and a certain post caught my eye.
One of my friends (on Facebook, not IRL) had posted an encouraging post about how she could have slept in. She could have taken the day off. She could have felt sorry for herself, only she didn't. She decided that participating in daily life was more important. She put mind over matter.
She encouraged me to do the same, which is weird because I never really find motivation to do anything other than hide under my covers during my morning Facebooking. This is something that became my personal mantra for the day, and is something I plan to keep for days to come.
While putting mind over matter, I dropped my water bottle, dented it, and forgot to pack a lunch. Okay, I could have let that ruin my day. Only, I didn't. I chose to keep my positive outlook going.
An anonymous Pinterest quote once said: "Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life. If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted. If you continue to act as you always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten. If you want different results in your life or your work, all you have to do is change your mind."
Well, Anonymous, you are so right. How can I expect my life to get better if I don't have a better perspective? How can I expect change if I stay the same?
I have to choose to win in my life before I can actually start winning. Right?
Buddha actually said, a long long time ago: "Rule your mind or it will rule you."
This isn't a new thing. However, it has taken me this long to realize how important it is.
So this is my challenge to you. Throw the blankets off of you in the morning with a 'mind over matter' mentality. I dare you.
Carpe the freaking diem.
