Puppies on the Porch is a philanthropy hosted at Purdue University by the Sigma Chi Fraternity and Delta Gamma sorority. This event aims to raise at least $1,000 for a local charity, Lafayette Urban Ministry, by selling tickets for Purdue students to come play with puppies. Puppies on the Porch supports a local charity and also raises awareness of several local animal shelters.
The benefactor of Puppies on the Porch is The Lafayette Urban Ministry (LUM). LUM is an organization of 42 local Christian churches that give children and families living in unfortunate circumstances a social safety net and a stepping stone toward a life of stability. LUM has dedicated themselves to giving low-income and needy families in the Greater Lafayette area a future, hope and self respect for over 40 years. They play a crucial role in breaking down social barriers, changing stigmas of the impoverished and improving the quality of life for Indiana residents in need.
The brothers and sisters of Sigma Chi and Delta Gamma would love to see a crowd of people on the porch to on February 28th. The fur will be flying and it'll all be for the benefit of families in our community. Greek life, no matter what school you go to, has always had a focus on contributing to the betterment of our community. So why not throw puppies into the mix?
Tickets for the event cost $5 and will be available online and on campus soon. Walk-ups will be charged $7 a ticket, so get on it early if you want in on the puppy action. The event will take place at the Sigma Chi Fraternity chapter house (202 Littleton Street, West Lafayette, IN 47906) on Saturday, February 28th, from 1 to 5 p.m. See you there!
